On the 29th, Song Ga-in posted a photo of a white chrysanthemum on her SNS, writing, "I pay tribute to the victims of the Muan Airport aviation accident. I express my deepest condolences and sympathy." Song Ga-in, who is originally from Jindo in Jeollanam-do, has shown special affection and interest in the region, having been appointed as an honorary police officer by the Jeollanam-do Police Agency.
Earlier that morning, a Jeju Air passenger plane carrying 181 passengers collided with the outer wall of the runway during landing, resulting in a fire that led to the deaths of 179 people and injuries to 2 others. Among the 175 passengers, 173 were confirmed to be Korean, while the remaining 2 were Thai nationals.
In the aftermath of the Jeju Air passenger plane tragedy, broadcasting networks canceled various entertainment programs and year-end award ceremonies.
MBC announced that, following an emergency news special broadcast on the 29th, the 2024 MBC Entertainment Awards ceremony scheduled for 8:30 PM was canceled. The government declared a national mourning period from the 29th until January 4 at midnight, lasting for seven days.
