The writer of “Namib,” Lim Seong-min, confessed that there are even more interesting behind-the-scenes stories about the writing process.

The Genie TV original drama “Namib” (written by Eom Seong-min, directed by Han Sang-jae and Kang Min-goo), which will premiere on December 23 at 10 PM, tells the story of a fired star producer, Kang Soo-hyun (played by Ko Hyun-jung), and a released long-term trainee, Yoo Jin-woo (played by Ryu Un), as they pursue their respective goals. This drama marks the first television debut of writer Eom Seong-min, who showcased solid writing skills in the film “The Day of the National Bankruptcy,” drawing attention.

Eom Seong-min stated, “Unlike movies, dramas have episodes, so it was new to create continuous conflicts,” explaining the differences between writing movie scripts and drama scripts. He added, “Since I spent much longer on this than on a film, I don’t yet feel that I have completed a work.”

He also expressed that through this work, “I wanted to tell the story of two people in the most desperate positions in that world,” and that “the behind-the-scenes stories of the glamorous industry are always interesting, but I didn’t want it to look like ‘the world they live in.’” He emphasized that he “strived to capture universal conflicts and emotions of people within the drama,” adding to the intrigue.

Furthermore, he mentioned, “True empathy is not about understanding someone in the same situation, but about accepting someone in a completely different situation,” and explained the meaning behind the title, saying, “A woman living a dry life like a desert and a child drifting like the sea met, but I wanted to convey that their meeting could be as beautiful as the Namib Desert where the desert and the sea meet.” This has sparked curiosity about the relationship between Kang Soo-hyun and Yoo Jin-woo in the drama.

Finally, Eom Seong-min described “Namib” as a story where the various goals of characters, including the efforts of adults to raise children, the dilemma of parents who can only think of their children first, and the trainees striving to find their dreams in between, intertwine to unfold various emotions and relationships. He added, “Please watch how their goals can coexist.”

The Genie TV original drama “Namib” will premiere on the 23rd at 10 PM on ENA, and streaming will be available for free immediately after the broadcast on KT Genie TV and Genie TV Mobile.
