'God of Carnage' has returned with a new cast after 5 years.
On the afternoon of the 10th, a press call for the play 'God of Carnage' was held at the Freedom Theater of the Arts Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul. After a highlight rehearsal, a Q&A session was held with director Kim Tae-hoon and actors Kim Sang-kyung, Min Young-ki, Jo Young-kyu, Shin Dong-mi, Lee Hee-joon, Lim Kang-hee, and Jung Yeon.
'God of Carnage' is a work by playwright Yasmina Reza that humorously and incisively critiques the illusions of intellectuals, returning for its fifth season after 5 years.
Director Kim Tae-hoon, who is directing 'God of Carnage' for the third time, expressed, "I am very happy to bring 'God of Carnage' back with seven new actors. It is an honor to present such a wonderful work."
Regarding the differences from previous seasons, he explained, "Changing the actors gives a new color to the same work. This time, I wanted to give the stage a feeling like a fighting arena. I tried to express the realistic struggles of adults."
This performance features an entirely new cast. Min Young-ki, Jo Young-kyu, and Lim Kang-hee play the roles of Alain and Annette, the parents of the boy who was hit, while Kim Sang-kyung, Lee Hee-joon, Shin Dong-mi, and Jung Yeon play the roles of Michel and Véronique, the parents of the boy who was hit.
Jo Young-kyu, who plays Alain, shared, "I am very happy to be doing this work. I am enjoying the process." Min Young-ki said, "This is my first challenge in theater. I am very glad that the work is 'God of Carnage.' It has been a big challenge to perform comedy on stage, and it has been a fun experience."
Lim Kang-hee, who plays Annette, stated, "I found the script very interesting when I first received it. I am having a lot of fun during rehearsals and performances."
Kim Sang-kyung, who plays Michel, said, "This is a play that becomes more enjoyable as we go along. I think it is important for the audience to engage. We are communicating a lot." Lee Hee-joon added, "I decided to take on the role immediately when the offer came because I had always been interested in the script. After performing, I feel even more glad that I did."
Shin Dong-mi, who plays Véronique, remarked, "I performed at the Freedom Theater in 1999, and now, 25 years later, I am back. It feels so new and exciting. I am falling in love with the charm of theater again, which I had forgotten about." Jung Yeon expressed, "I knew the audience would enjoy it, but seeing them enjoy it even more than I expected has energized me to work even more joyfully."
'God of Carnage' will be performed at the Freedom Theater of the Arts Center until January 5 of next year.
