Kim Sang-kyung, from ‘God of Carnage’, shared his thoughts on returning to the theater stage after 15 years.
On the afternoon of the 10th, a press call for the play ‘God of Carnage’ was held at the Freedom Theater of the Arts Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul. After a highlight performance, a Q&A session was attended by director Kim Tae-hoon, actors Kim Sang-kyung, Min Young-ki, Jo Young-kyu, Shin Dong-mi, Lee Hee-jun, Lim Kang-hee, and Jung Yeon.
‘God of Carnage’ is a work by playwright Yasmina Reza that humorously and incisively critiques the illusions of intellectuals, returning for its fifth season after five years.
Kim Sang-kyung made his return to the theater stage after 15 years since 2009.
Regarding this, Kim Sang-kyung said, “I graduated from a prestigious theater department and always thought I should be doing theater. However, I got busy in the industry and kept postponing it until I did a play in 2009. I always had that thought, but I didn’t realize the performance culture had changed. The venues are booked a year in advance, and the cast is confirmed. I thought I could do it when there were no dramas or movies, but that wasn’t the case. I had to schedule plays or musicals in advance and adjust my drama schedule accordingly. The role I was assigned had many challenges in terms of collaboration, which made it difficult. I think participating this time is a very good thing,” he said.
This performance features an entirely new cast. Min Young-ki and Jo Young-kyu play the roles of Alain and Annette, the parents of the boy who was hit, while Kim Sang-kyung, Lee Hee-jun, Shin Dong-mi, and Jung Yeon play the roles of Michel and Véronique, the parents of the boy who was hit.
‘God of Carnage’ will be performed at the Freedom Theater of the Arts Center until January 5 of next year.
