The prosecution has sought a 7-year prison sentence for Moon Tae-il, a former member of the group NCT, who is facing charges of sexual crimes. Tae-il acknowledged all of his charges and bowed his head.
On the 18th, the first trial regarding the violation of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (special rape) involving Tae-il and two other defendants was held at the 26th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court.
On this day, Tae-il appeared in court with the other two defendants and acknowledged all the charges against him. The prosecution sought a 7-year prison sentence and a 10-year employment restriction for all of them.

According to the prosecution, Tae-il met the victim by chance at a bar in Itaewon with two acquaintances at around 2:33 AM on June 13 last year, drank alcohol, and then took the victim in a taxi to his residence in Bangbae-dong. The suspects raped the victim, who was unconscious due to excessive intoxication, between 4:00 AM and 4:30 AM that day. The charge of special rape was applied as two or more individuals engaged in sexual intercourse with a person who was unable to resist due to a state of mental incapacity.
At the time, the Seoul Bangbae Police, which was conducting the investigation, applied for arrest warrants for the three individuals on June 3, but the court dismissed the warrants, stating that the suspects acknowledged their crimes and there was no need for detention. It is reported that there are no other celebrities among those who committed the crime alongside Tae-il.
Tae-il, who identified himself as “a former singer who was expelled from the company and is currently doing light part-time work,” expressed in his final statement, “I deeply regret and apologize for the great harm caused to the victim. If given leniency, I believe this is truly the last opportunity in my life, and I will do my best to live while enduring and doing whatever I can in society.”
Tae-il debuted in 2016 as part of NCT's first unit NCT U and has been active as a member of NCT and NCT 127. However, due to the aftermath of the incident, Tae-il was expelled from the group and also from his agency, SM Entertainment. SM announced, “The exclusive contract with Tae-il has been terminated as of October 15, 2024,” stating, “Tae-il is currently under investigation by the prosecution for a criminal complaint, which constitutes grounds for termination of the exclusive contract, and we can no longer maintain trust in him as an artist, leading to the decision to terminate the contract in agreement with him.”
