Izna, who sang with confidence in her debut song 'Izna', shows an expanded world of Izna by singing about love in 'SIGN'.
Having debuted in the K-pop scene last November and quickly making her mark on various global charts, Izna conveys a deeper musical color with 'SIGN'. The changed charm of Izna can also be glimpsed in the previously released visual film for 'SIGN'. From her unique girl-like charm to a mature atmosphere, the expectations from Naya (Izna's fandom) for Izna, who captures both loveliness and dreamy appeal, are very high.
With high expectations, the members of Izna are also very motivated. When I asked Jeong Sebi, who mentioned 'Billboard No. 1' as the ultimate goal during their debut showcase, if that goal still stands, she shyly smiled and replied, "It still does."
Is there a phrase or goal you want to achieve through this activity?
Yu Sa-rang: I once mentioned that I wanted to be called a 'performance master' at debut, but this time I want to be recognized as both a 'performance master' and a 'vocal queen'.
Jeong Sebi: I want to aim for No. 1 on music shows and music charts. Especially since I am active as the MC for 'The Show'. I have dreamed of being a music show MC since before my debut, so it was an honor to be given this opportunity, and the more I do it, the more fun it becomes and the more I want to do well. I am really looking forward to being able to introduce our album 'SIGN'. If I dream bigger, I think about how happy it would be to announce No. 1 on 'The Show' while holding a trophy and singing.
Choi Jeong-eun: Personally, I want to meet many Naya fans from various countries globally after the 'SIGN' activities.
Yu Sa-rang: We debuted at 'MAMA'. Watching the performances of our seniors at that time was really impressive. I was deeply moved by their acceptance speeches, and all the members said, "Let's win the Rookie of the Year award here next year." The Rookie of the Year award can only be received when you are a rookie. As we continue to achieve results, I think we might be able to aim for the grand prize as well. So, I am boldly dreaming of 'Billboard No. 1' and even the Grammys.
This time, there is a challenge for 'SIGN'. Are there any fellow or senior artists you would like to do the challenge with?
Yu Sa-rang: All of our members' role models are senior BLACKPINK. I think it would be great if we could do the challenge with our role models. In fact, there are many people I want to try it with. Many artists have debuted, and I would love to have a good opportunity to collaborate and influence each other positively.
Bang Ji-min: I was able to film a challenge video with the Ailet members I practiced with because our last 'Izna' activities overlapped, and we met after a long time. If there is a chance to meet again this time, I would like to film together again. (laughs)
Did you receive any advice or direction from producer Teddy while working on this project?
Mai: I think it's an honor just to be directed by producer Teddy. Being called a 'Teddy girl group' is a title I am very grateful for and proud of. I am working hard to show a good image so that I won't be ashamed of that name. I want to become an artist worthy of the name Izna.
Bang Ji-min: While working on the new song, producer Teddy asked us a lot about the direction of our song and listened to our opinions, for which I am grateful. He provided a lot of direction and shared good insights, which I think led to a great song.
Yu Sa-rang: 'SIGN' is a song that focuses on emotional expression. While recording 'SIGN', producer Teddy talked a lot about 'emotional expression'. He emphasized that even if you sing a single line, it's important to express emotions in one breath, and he helped us immerse ourselves in the song's emotions.
Mai: I feel that producer Teddy's very existence is a good pressure for us. It gives us a sense of responsibility, and I want to continue to live up to that name. I think producer Teddy gives us both a good pressure and influence.
Is there a concept you want to try as Izna?
Coco: Personally, I haven't tried a chic and cool concept, so I want to try that kind of concept.
Mai: Like Coco, I also want to try a chic concept. I used to dance when I was younger, so I want to try soft dancing as well. In fact, not only chic or softness, but our Izna has various charms, so I want to let the public know that we can handle any concept.
Yu Sa-rang: Just as our debut song 'Izna' and 'SIGN' are different, the concepts we can show are really diverse. I hope everyone loves Izna, who can handle any concept well.
Does Izna have a role model?
Yu Sa-rang: As mentioned earlier, we really like senior BLACKPINK. While talking this time, I realized that many of us have BLACKPINK as our dream inspiration. Both Jimin and I have a strong desire to become globally influential artists like senior BLACKPINK. And if I were to name a personal role model, I really like the voice of Aespa's Winter. So, if there is ever a chance, I have a wish to meet her.
Choi Jeong-eun: I was very impressed by BLACKPINK's Coachella performance. They have a synergy that captivates the stage, and I want to grow more and perform on the Coachella stage in the future.
Jeong Sebi: I actually grew my dreams by watching IVE's Jang Wonyoung. I like her so much that I can say she is my lifelong role model. Just saying her name makes me smile, and I want to emulate her professional presence on stage.
What are the strengths that differentiate Izna from other groups?
Izna: Since we debuted through a survival show, I think we are a team created directly by the fans. Because of that, I believe we are closer to our fans than other groups. Above all, since each of us has different training methods and preparation processes, the tips we gained from those experiences are also different. I think our strength lies in the fact that we can make more diverse attempts because of the various experiences we have.
