Actor Lee Byung-hun mentioned Yoo Ah-in, another lead actor in 'Victory', who caused a 'drug scandal'.

On the afternoon of the 21st, Lee Byung-hun conducted an interview for the movie 'Victory' at a cafe located in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.

'Victory' tells the story of the best Go legend in South Korea, Cho Hun-hyun (played by Lee Byung-hun), who challenges the top once again after losing a match against his disciple. Lee Byung-hun portrayed the living Go legend Cho Hun-hyun, while his disciple and world Go genius Lee Chang-ho was played by Yoo Ah-in.

Regarding Yoo Ah-in's performance as Lee Chang-ho, Lee Byung-hun said, “It was a role I hadn't seen in Yoo Ah-in's previous works. I thought it was amazing how he expressed the character with a calm demeanor and an inscrutable gaze, tone, and gestures, just like Lee Chang-ho. It seemed like he was trying to immerse himself in the character, to the point where I couldn't really understand his personality. He was quiet and reserved. He was really trying to stay immersed in the character,” he confessed.

'Victory', which finished filming in 2021, was originally scheduled to be released on Netflix in 2023. However, the release was postponed due to Yoo Ah-in being investigated for habitual drug use, and after various twists and turns, it was decided to be released on the 26th. Regarding the emotions he felt as the release kept getting delayed, he cautiously stated, “I think this role was performed excellently.”

Lee Byung-hun began, “Just because one actor does well, it doesn't mean the movie shines.” He continued, “Actors need to work well together for the film to elevate, and I believe that’s how the audience can get deeply immersed. In that sense, I thought we did well,” and added, “When I was waiting for the release, I also felt regret. However, what worried me more than myself was director Kim Hyung-joo. After filming 'The Supplementary Teacher', he prepared for a long time and shot the film with great care, and I wondered if there could be anyone who would suffer more than the director if it didn’t reach the audience.”

When asked if he had contacted Yoo Ah-in after the incident, he replied, “Not once. In fact, we weren't the type to contact each other often even before.”
