Actress Kim Hyun-sook revealed that she struggled with postpartum depression.
On the 18th, the MBN entertainment program 'Sokpuri Show Dongchimi' aired an episode titled 'Winners: Those Who Are Not Married vs. Those Who Are Married.'
On this day, Kim Hyun-sook confessed, "Giving birth was physically challenging, but I was also burdened by the obsession of having to take responsibility for the child."
She continued, "Since I was almost the breadwinner and had to take care of the financial aspects, I couldn't take a long break." She added, "I gave birth on January 18 and started working from the second week of March," explaining, "I went to teach at a school. I took the KTX to Busan once a week. I started filming 'My Name is Kim Sam-soon' in June and almost pulled all-nighters. I enlisted in 'Real Men' in August," revealing her relentless schedule.
Having led the drama 'My Name is Kim Sam-soon' for 13 years, she explained, "At that time, I was an icon of single women, so even after getting married, I felt pressure. The production team waited a year after my marriage. I couldn't take a long break."
She continued, "When I gave birth, the situation changed, and I felt suffocated. If I breastfed, I couldn't sleep at night. Even when I went out, I had to pump in advance."
She expressed, "I thought that if I just stayed still, maternal instincts would come naturally. Guilt overwhelmed me. While suppressing those feelings, I lived on the 6th floor of an apartment and thought, 'What if I suddenly jump off with my child?' I also thought, 'What if I jump onto the train tracks?' That was postpartum depression. It was so hard," revealing her mental state at the time.
Meanwhile, Kim Hyun-sook married a non-celebrity in 2014 and gave birth to a son the following year. After divorcing in December 2020, she is raising her child alone.
