Kim Seok-hoon has transformed into an auctioneer.

On the afternoon of the 18th, the MBC entertainment program ‘The Manager's Perspective’ (hereafter ‘The Manager’s Perspective’) featured Kim Seok-hoon.

During the broadcast, Kim Seok-hoon asked his manager, “Are you wearing that hat? What happened?” It turned out that during their last visit to a thrift store, Kim Seok-hoon had gifted his manager a new hat that he had wanted, which had been left behind. The manager said, “I was really touched and surprised. It was wrapped in tags and plastic, so I received it as a new item.”

He explained, “On my days off, I meet with my manager early and we go grocery shopping about once every two weeks. We hardly order delivery because of excessive packaging, so we prefer to go and buy things ourselves.”

Later, Kim Seok-hoon and his manager playfully argued about how much they cared for each other. When the manager said, “In the summer, the electricity bill can be around 70,000 to 80,000 won? I think a fan was enough,” Kim Seok-hoon replied, “But I have air conditioners in every room. There are four rooms, and each has an air conditioner, so we all gather in the room with the air conditioner on during the summer.”

He continued, “The optimal temperature is 26 degrees, but when I set it to that, I feel cold. So I set it to 28 degrees and only turn it on for 1 or 2 hours on a timer. Even though my house is big, my electricity bill in the middle of summer is around 100,000 won. Electricity is cheap in our country,” which surprised the studio.

Upon arriving at the refurbished market, the two went grocery shopping on the first floor and household items on the second floor. The studio was in an uproar when they saw bananas for 500 won and massage chairs priced at around 600,000 won, with Yang Se-hyung particularly exclaiming, “Isn’t that a real problem?” after seeing the prices. After a shopping spree, they spent less than 30,000 won, and Kim Seok-hoon went to shop at a large furniture store next door.

While looking at blenders, Kim Seok-hoon ultimately did not make a purchase, and Song Eun-yi offered, “Did you buy a blender? I have a big one at home that I don’t use, so I’ll give it to you!” Kim Seok-hoon smiled and said, “Thank you. If someone else uses something I don’t need, that brings me joy.”

The manager expressed a desire to buy a rice cooker but said, “I couldn’t find a pressure cooker that I liked!” and ended up not buying one. When Kim Seok-hoon discovered a bug-repelling light, he said, “This would be good to put outside, so I’ll buy it.” When Song Eun-yi asked why he decided to buy it without hesitation, Kim Seok-hoon explained, “Because of global warming, summers have become longer. Mosquitoes are still around. It’s essential for the kids,” showing his caring side as a parent.

After confirming that the product worked well, he completed the purchase of the bug-repelling light for 20,000 won. However, upon re-entering the refurbished market, Kim Seok-hoon stood in front of a bicycle he had seen earlier. He thought, “I really want to buy a good one for my kids.”

Afterward, the two headed to their scheduled location. The manager explained, “I’m opening an auction market for company employees and artists on my Trash Uncle channel,” detailing the purpose of the schedule. Kim Seok-hoon stated, “The environmental issue actually starts from excessive buying and consumption. It’s truly a happy thing if someone can use something I don’t need.”

The manager added, “Since you wanted to try being an auctioneer, you will debut as one. We put up auction posters in the company, and the staff donated items. The proceeds will be donated to environmental refugees.”

Kim Seok-hoon explained the reason for his active involvement, saying, “There are people who can’t afford to pay their electricity bills due to climate change. There are organizations that cover electricity bills, and I planned this event to donate to them.”

That day, the auction featured many usable items such as bags, game consoles, and wallets. The auction hall was filled with numerous artists and staff, including actors Kim Sung-eun, Jung Yu-mi, Billy Moon Soo-ah, CEO Yeo Woon-hyuk, and the Kim Ina couple, and soon the indoor space was packed with bidders.

Seok-hoon expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you for coming today, and for those who unfortunately didn’t bring cash, bank transfers are also possible. We will officially start the first auction,” as he took out a luxury belt donated by actor Jo Han-sun. When Kim Seok-hoon started the bidding at 70,000 won, hands shot up from all around, and it was eventually sold for 100,000 won.

Following that, high-end razors, game consoles, luxury scarves, and food waste disposers were auctioned off, and soon the total amount of donations reached 2.8 million won as all items were sold.

‘The Manager's Perspective’ airs every Saturday at 11:10 PM on MBC.
