The ‘Brains’ of ‘Brain Academy’ earned a ‘Health’ knowledge medal thanks to their performance on the ‘Science Brain’ orbit.

On the broadcast of Channel A's knowledge quiz show ‘Brain Academy’ on the 28th, the ‘Brains’ Jeon Hyun-moo, Ha Seok-jin, Lee Sang-yeob, Yoon So-hee, Hwang Je-sung, and Gweedo correctly answered all the quizzes posed by ‘Health Master’ Dr. Ham Ik-byeong, earning their 9th knowledge medal. They showcased perfect ‘collective intelligence’, surprising Dr. Ham and providing viewers with not only intellectual dopamine but also valuable medical knowledge, garnering enthusiastic responses.

On that day, Dr. Ham Ik-byeong, who entered the ‘Master Zone’, said, “Let’s explore health tips closely related to our lives,” and began the quiz in the ‘Health’ category. The ‘Brains’ first chose ‘water’ from the 8 problem keywords. Dr. Ham posed the quiz, “Choose 2 drinks that can be consumed instead of water,” with options including ‘green tea, rooibos tea, oolong tea, jasmine tea, kombucha, chamomile tea’. Gweedo suggested, “Let’s exclude those with any ‘effects’,” and Yoon So-hee agreed, saying, “Let’s exclude those with caffeine,” correctly identifying rooibos tea and chamomile tea as the answers.

From the first question, with accurate logic, Dr. Ham was impressed, and Jeon Hyun-moo chose ‘hair loss’ as the next keyword. He confessed, “The lid on my head is flying off,” reminiscing, “I used to be like Simpson, and it’s upsetting. I used to carry my hair around.” Ha Seok-jin empathized, saying, “I was also a grass doll,” and Dr. Ham joined in the ‘hair loss coming out’ by stating, “I’ve been taking hair loss medication for my whole life.” Immediately after, he posed the ‘True/False quiz’ asking, “Does taking hair loss treatment cause erectile dysfunction due to decreased male hormones?” Hwang Je-sung confidently stated, “I’ve been taking (hair loss medication) for 3-4 years, and there are no (side effect) changes,” while Lee Sang-yeob responded, “I’ve also been taking it for 6-7 years,” correctly answering ‘False’.

Amid the self-sacrificing (?) collective intelligence of the ‘Brains’, Lee Sang-yeob chose ‘hair’ as the keyword, saying, “Since we talked about ‘hair loss’, let’s go with ‘hair’~.” Dr. Ham posed the ‘True/False quiz’ asking, “Does regularly removing hair not change its thickness?” Gweedo argued, “It’s due to a physical illusion; the thickness remains unchanged,” successfully hunting for the correct answer with the ‘law of conservation of hair roots’. At that moment, Ha Seok-jin revealed, “As I age, sometimes long eyebrow hairs grow,” to which Dr. Ham diagnosed, “That’s one of the aging phenomena,” bringing a ‘laughing sadness’. In response, Gweedo added, “(Eyebrow hair) is actually a mutation,” and Ha Seok-jin showed a positive mindset, saying, “So it’s like a four-leaf clover~,” giving birth to ‘Seok-jin’s thought’.

After a good laugh, the ‘Brains’ chose the keyword ‘keratin’. Dr. Ham asked, “Is it okay not to remove dead skin for a lifetime?” Ha Seok-jin, Lee Sang-yeob, and Hwang Je-sung immediately claimed, “The answer is True,” while Jeon Hyun-moo and Gweedo added, “It can scratch the skin and allow viruses to penetrate,” thus getting the answer right. Dr. Ham remarked, “If you get the answer right in just 1 second after I pose the question…” and fell into a ‘reality check’, making everyone feel awkward.

Next, Dr. Ham posed a question related to the keyword ‘skin type’, asking, “If your face feels tight and has dead skin after washing, is it dry skin?” The ‘Brains’ quickly answered correctly. The next keyword was ‘cancer’, and Dr. Ham stated, “As life expectancy increases, the number of skin cancer patients is also rising,” presenting the problem to “Find two of the following skin spots.”

Among the 6 photos provided, Gweedo humorously asked, “If you could only attach one to your body, which one would you choose?” eliciting laughter. Based on this, the ‘Brains’ got the answer right. Additionally, when the keyword ‘atopy’ was chosen next, Dr. Ham asked, “Does atopy worsen dark circles?” Gweedo deduced, “Dark circles are related to rhinitis. The answer is True,” receiving high praise.

Finally, regarding the keyword ‘blood sugar’, Dr. Ham posed the question, “Which food commonly consumed by Koreans raises blood sugar the most?” with options including ‘barley rice, white rice, glutinous rice, roasted sweet potato, spaghetti, ramen’. Yoon So-hee argued, “White rice is necessary when bulking up,” while Gweedo questioned, “Isn’t it unexpectedly glutinous rice?” Then Yoon So-hee speculated, “Because it’s like rice cake?” and Gweedo interpreted, “Because it’s an ingredient that quickly raises energy…” thus clearing the final answer. Gweedo, who performed brilliantly, entered the ‘Master Zone’ and received applause from everyone as he wore the ‘Health’ knowledge medal.

Channel A’s ‘Brain Academy’, a high-quality quiz show where top scholars from South Korea pose questions, airs every Thursday at 9:40 PM.
