‘Life is a Movie’ has announced an exciting talk about ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’, which is gaining global popularity regardless of nationality or age.
On the 2nd, KBS1's movie talk show ‘Life is a Movie’ will feature pop columnist Kim Tae-hoon as a special guest, sharing a multifaceted perspective on ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ (hereafter ‘K-Demon’) and the globalization of K-culture that has captivated audiences worldwide.
Kim Tae-hoon, along with film critics Rainer, Georeun, and MC Lee Jae-sung, will provide a cold analysis of the global success of K-culture content through ‘Squid Game’, which recently concluded its third season, and actor Son Seok-koo's ‘Night Fishing’, which won the Grand Prix at a famous advertising festival, as well as ‘K-Demon’.
Regarding ‘K-Demon’, the first overseas-produced animation featuring K-pop idols, Kim Tae-hoon praised its high level of completion, stating, “‘K-Demon’ is like watching a continuous scene of a music video, making it a ‘gift set of a movie’ for K-pop fans.”
He noted, “Korean scenes such as kimbap, ramen, sundae, and gukbap, or the culture of public baths, appear in the film as experiences for foreigners to engage with,” adding, “It seems to evoke a lot of responses as it feels like a form of proxy tourism where viewers experience Korean culture as if they were actually visiting Korea.”
When asked whether ‘K-Demon’, which has succeeded through overseas production companies and OTT distribution, is Korean content, Kim Tae-hoon stated, “We also need to change our thinking about culture,” suddenly bringing up jjajangmyeon as an example and suggesting the possibility of ‘another Hallyu’ that mixes cultures from around the world. There is growing curiosity about what the global success of ‘K-Demon’ means from the perspective of a pop columnist.
The outspoken film critic Georeun, known for his sharp critiques, praised ‘K-Demon’ by saying, “(It has) a well-structured story, so it was quite good,” but also made an unexpected statement that left Kim Tae-hoon and other guests puzzled.
In response, MC Lee Jae-sung asked, “Isn’t it time to just accept it at this point?” to which Georeun replied, “I just can’t understand it. I can’t accept it,” showing a stubborn stance that sparked curiosity.
Episode 17 of ‘Life is a Movie’ will air on the 2nd at 11:10 PM.
