Lee Bo-young and Kang Ki-young are set to stir up a storm with their 'final secret meeting' at a peaceful beach.
The new MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Mary Kills People' (written by Lee Soo-ah, directed by Park Jun-woo), which will premiere on August 1 at 10 PM, is a suspense drama that tells the story of a doctor who assists terminally ill patients in dying and the detective who tracks them down.
In 'Mary Kills People', Lee Bo-young plays the role of Woo So-jung, an emergency medicine doctor who helps patients at the boundary of life and death, while Kang Ki-young portrays Jae Hyun, a supporter who oscillates between warmth and seriousness as he assists Woo So-jung (played by Lee Bo-young). Expectations are high for the significant themes that these two actors, known for their solid acting spectrum, will explore through assisted dying.
In this context, a scene capturing Lee Bo-young and Kang Ki-young visiting a tranquil beach with Son Sook has drawn attention. The scene shows Woo So-jung and Jae Hyun (played by Kang Ki-young) facing Lee Eun-young (played by Son Sook), who is about to make her final choice, amidst the rocks of a deserted beach where no one else is around. Woo So-jung and Jae Hyun engage in a calm conversation with Lee Eun-young, who gently pats Jae Hyun's hand and smiles subtly.
In particular, Woo So-jung maintains a deep gaze on Lee Eun-young, while Jae Hyun focuses intently on every word from Lee Eun-young with a warm expression. Standing together at the boundary of life and death on the silent beach, the heavy tension conveyed by Woo So-jung, Jae Hyun, and Lee Eun-young raises anticipation for the impending storm of emotions.
Meanwhile, Lee Bo-young and Kang Ki-young showcased overwhelming acting skills in the 'final secret meeting' scene set at the beach, which Lee Eun-young chose as her favorite place. The serene beach, rugged cliffs, and gently swaying sea breeze heightened the immersion in the scene. Lee Bo-young expressed Woo So-jung's complex emotions filled with anguish in a restrained tone, while Kang Ki-young conveyed Jae Hyun's feelings with a warm smile. As Son Sook's calm dialogue resonated, the performances of Lee Bo-young and Kang Ki-young added depth, resulting in a highly polished scene.
The production team stated, "Lee Bo-young and Kang Ki-young showcase a special 'support synergy' in their work of assisting dying patients, making this scene meaningful." They added, "Within this scene lies the essence of 'Mary Kills People'—life and death, anguish and choice, regret and tears. Please look forward to the passionate performances of Lee Bo-young and Kang Ki-young that will grace the first episode."
