Rookie actor Park Joo-won has played a vital role in 'My Girlfriend is a Manly Guy'.
In the new KBS2 Wednesday-Thursday drama 'My Girlfriend is a Manly Guy' (written by Lee Hae-na, directed by Yoo Kwan-mo), which premiered on the 23rd, Park Joo-won appears as Choi Yu-ri, the best friend of 'Ji-eun' (played by Arin), capturing attention with her cute clumsiness.
In the drama, Choi Yu-ri is a popular author with over 100,000 fans who is serializing a romance web novel titled 'Goddess's Private Life', but in reality, she is a lifelong single who is only well-versed in the theory of romance.
When Ji-eun, who has transformed into a man, comes to celebrate her birthday late, Yu-ri imagines absurdly that a chaebol heir or a long-time fan has come to see her. However, when Yu-ri shouts the friendship code 'Gaebul' and performs the 'Gaebul Dance', and solves a problem that only Ji-eun would know, she starts to believe that the handsome man in front of her is Ji-eun.
While admiring Ji-eun's beauty as a handsome man, she hears Ji-eun's worries about the fear of being dumped by Yoon-jae (played by Yoon San-ha) and responds eagerly, “Let’s date. I’ll take responsibility,” or shows her meddlesome side by teaching Ji-eun, who has transformed into a man, 'boyfriend strategies' from the 'dating tips' she read in books, but ends up feeling flustered herself, providing viewers with delightful laughs.
In this process, Park Joo-won perfectly embodies the character of Choi Yu-ri, who has a cute and harmless charm with her clumsiness that shines through regardless of time and place, adding vitality to the drama.
Rookie Park Joo-won has showcased her unique fresh charm through various genres and characters in dramas such as 'Gugyeongi', 'Doctor Cha Jeong-sook', and 'It’s Night', and recently gained attention as the lead role Namgoong Byeol in the short-form drama 'Hello, Oppas', which quickly gained global popularity through various social media platforms like YouTube Shorts and Instagram after being released on 'Drama Wave'.
Through 'My Girlfriend is a Manly Guy', Park Joo-won shows off her best friend synergy with Arin, displaying an extraordinary presence from her first appearance, and behind-the-scenes stills revealing her diverse charm have been released, increasing anticipation.
In the released photos, Park Joo-won is seen fully immersed in the scene, focusing on the script or making playful eye contact with the camera, showcasing her lovely charm and drawing attention.
Park Joo-won said, “Personally, I love the romantic comedy genre and have always wanted to act in one, so I was very happy to participate in this project. I looked up the original webtoon to reference Yu-ri's external image, and I gained more confidence as the director and staff often praised me by saying I resembled Yu-ri, allowing me to gradually fill in the character.”
She added, “While playing Yu-ri, I had high expectations of showing a new side of actress Park Joo-won that is different from the weak and dark images I have mostly shown in previous works. I want to show a lot of cheerful and bright aspects through the cute character Yu-ri, and I hope many people will watch our drama.”
'My Girlfriend is a Manly Guy' airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:50 PM.
