‘Try: We Become Miracles’ announced a fresh start with decent viewership ratings despite the negative news about cast member Song Young-kyu’s ‘drunk driving’ just before its airing.
The new SBS Friday-Saturday drama ‘Try: We Become Miracles’ (written by Lim Jin-ah / directed by Jang Young-seok), which premiered on the 25th, depicted the story of rugby idol star Joo Ga-ram (played by Yoon Kye-sang) returning as the new coach of his alma mater, Hanyang Physical Education High School's rugby team, after a three-year disappearance following an infamous retirement.
In particular, Ga-ram made a thrilling ‘return announcement’ by placing a rugby ball on the victory altar of Hanyang Physical Education High School. As a result, ‘Try’ recorded a peak viewership rating of 4.8%, a national average of 4.1%, and a 2049 peak of 1.46%. This marks the highest rating in its time slot. (Nielsen Korea)
The first episode of the drama began intensely with the story of rugby star Joo Ga-ram (played by Yoon Kye-sang), who led a comeback victory in the ‘2012 Asia Cup Rugby Final’ and returned as the coach of his alma mater's rugby team after three years of infamous retirement. Vice Principal Seong Jong-man (played by Kim Min-sang) pushes for the disbandment of the rugby team, but Principal Kang Jeong-hyo (played by Gil Hae-yeon) counters by appointing Ga-ram as the coach.
Amidst this, it was revealed that Ga-ram had suffered from ‘myasthenia gravis’, shocking the audience. His mentor and the principal who called him back to Hanyang Physical Education High School, Jeong-hyo, comforted Ga-ram, evoking sympathy. Ga-ram's infamous retirement and disappearance left scars on many.

Ga-ram's return caused a significant stir both inside and outside the school, especially as rugby team captain Yoon Seong-jun (played by Kim Yo-han) expressed his disappointment and sense of betrayal over Ga-ram's sudden retirement, refusing to acknowledge him as the coach. His ex-girlfriend Bae Ji (played by Lim Se-mi) also became enraged at Ga-ram's reappearance without any explanation, escalating the conflict.
The vice principal even involved the deputy superintendent to push for Ga-ram's dismissal, pressuring the rugby team by excluding them from common spaces and shifting the burden of preparing for the exam onto them. Seong-jun also showed signs of wavering under the vice principal's persuasion, agreeing to Ga-ram's dismissal, which heightened the tension.
However, Ga-ram ended the first episode with a dopamine-filled scene, counterattacking by sticking a rugby ball into a pig's head cake at the exam venue.
Notably, on the day of the broadcast, Song Young-kyu, who was reported for ‘drunk driving’ shortly before the airing, appeared as the former coach of Hanyang Physical Education High School, Kim Min-jung, drawing attention.
Song Young-kyu is accused of driving under the influence on the night of the 19th of last month, having driven approximately 5 km from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu in Yongin, with his blood alcohol concentration reportedly exceeding the legal limit (0.08% or higher).
Meanwhile, the second episode of ‘Try: We Become Miracles’ will air on the 26th at 9:50 PM.
