Actor Park Yong-woo (54) shared his thoughts on meeting Lee Young-ae in his upcoming project ‘Good Day Eun-soo’.
The LG Uplus STUDIO X+U mid-form drama ‘The Hunter with a Scalpel’ is a crime thriller where a forensic doctor, Se-hyun, discovers his father, a serial killer, who was thought to have died 20 years ago, and sets out to find him before the police officer Jung-hyun, in order not to become his father's prey.
Park Yong-woo played the role of Yoon Jo-kyun, a psychopathic serial killer who is passionate about human anatomy, in ‘The Hunter with a Scalpel’. He has been busy filming three projects, including ‘The Hunter with a Scalpel’ and the drama ‘Good Day Eun-soo’.
He mentioned, “Filming three projects at the same time leaves some regrets,” adding, “I like action. ‘Good Day Eun-soo’ also had action scenes, and it was fun,” which piqued curiosity.
He then talked about his chemistry with actress Lee Young-ae, whom he reunited with in the drama ‘Good Day Eun-soo’, set to be released in September.
He recalled, “Lee Young-ae didn’t remember me. A long time ago, I joined MBC and spent about two years doing many minor roles while getting paid. During that time, I was lucky to get a significant role, and Lee Young-ae was one of the main characters. I had a brief role, but I remember her being fascinating and beautiful.”
He added, “I remember attending the wrap party and sitting at the same table, and she was just the same as back then. She was quiet, reserved, and polite. But I was the only one who remembered. The project was called ‘Gani Station’.”

Park Yong-woo is a veteran actor who debuted as a talent in MBC's 24th recruitment in 1994. In his 30-year acting career, he portrayed an unprecedented level of psychopath and stated that he did not experience any aftereffects from playing the villain.
He said, “There were no aftereffects. Some roles are soft and gentle, and they can last for almost a year, while expressing a cruel person can sometimes be not so painful. I put my heart into Yoon Jo-kyun, but it was so unrealistic that I think that’s why. There were moments when I suddenly felt drained, but it wasn’t too distressing.”
He continued, “In the past, I used to monitor thoroughly on set and would stay quiet and alone until the project was over, but these days, I don’t monitor as much. I try to express according to the situation at that moment. Nowadays, I receive the script and know the situation, but since it’s the first time for the character, I want to experience that first moment as much as possible.”
He believes there is still much to do as an actor and expressed his desire to continue on his own path without pretending.
“It’s important to acknowledge deficiencies as an actor. Saying ‘there’s half a cup of coffee left’ versus ‘there’s only half’ is different. Even if I don’t like my face, it can become my unique strength. While trying to find myself by imitating others, I end up back at the starting point. The most important thing is to acknowledge myself and do things my way without pretending, and I want to continue like that. But who knows how my mind might change? What I promised myself is not to make safe choices but to keep taking risks. I feel like I’ve done another adventure with ‘The Hunter with a Scalpel’. So, I feel good.”
