Actress Won Jin-ah is taking on her first action genre challenge through 'Shopping'.
The new ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'Shopping' (written by Ahn So-jung, directed by Oh Gi-hwan), which will premiere on the 21st at 10 PM, is an action thriller depicting the desperate survival and revenge of children who barely survived after being abandoned by their adoptive parents.
In the drama, Won Jin-ah plays the role of Kim Ah-hyun, who was returned after being adopted but dramatically survived. Kim Ah-hyun is the leader and spiritual support of the surviving children, and after a desperate struggle for revenge and survival, she faces unexpected truths. Equipped with cold judgment and survival instincts, Kim Ah-hyun quickly assesses the situation and takes the lead in moments of crisis.
On the 8th, Won Jin-ah candidly shared her reasons for choosing the project and her feelings about taking on the role of Kim Ah-hyun. She said, "The story of the children in the work finding hope for life as humans, rather than for a great cost or purpose, was appealing to me," adding, "I had a dream of working in the action genre, and I am grateful to be part of a great project with wonderful actors, making it particularly meaningful."
Regarding the character of 'Kim Ah-hyun', the leader of the children who survived in a collapsed system, Won Jin-ah described, "Ah-hyun is a strong character who risks her life to move forward for a free life with her siblings, who became family for the same reason after being abandoned by her parents at a young age." She explained, "Since this is my first challenge in the action genre, it was important not only to embody the character but also to synchronize the action. The experience of sweating together with the fellow actors and trusting each other while acting was special."
She identified three keywords that express the character of Kim Ah-hyun: 'Responsibility', 'Perseverance', and 'Courage'. She elaborated, "I think the responsibility to protect her siblings, the perseverance not to give up in any difficult situation, and the will to find out until the end, no matter how huge and scary the opponent is, are what make her courageous," revealing her deep affection for the character.
Additionally, Won Jin-ah commented on the chemistry with the co-actors, saying, "It was great. The fellow actors quickly became close, as if we had known each other for a long time, and we were always together on set." She added, "Especially, senior Yeom Jung-ah was very supportive like a reliable older sister, always caring for me and buying delicious food. Except when we were acting, the set was always filled with laughter and people, so I think it will remain a memorable experience."
Finally, Won Jin-ah expressed, "I believe that not only I but also the other actors will be able to show different sides of themselves than before, and I am looking forward to it."
