Song Joong-ki mentioned his experience with acting in Spanish for 'Bogotá'.
On the afternoon of the 19th, a screening and press conference for the film 'Bogotá: The Land of Last Chances' (hereafter referred to as Bogotá) was held at Megabox COEX in Seoul. Director Kim Sung-jae and actors Song Joong-ki, Lee Hee-joon, Kwon Hae-hyo, Park Ji-hwan, and Kim Jong-soo attended.
Song Joong-ki stated, "I divided the narrative of Guk-hee into three stages: when Guk-hee arrived in Colombia, when he adapted and was living there, and when he became the president of the Korean merchants' association in the latter part. I had a desire to express that transformation."
He added, "That wasn't the first reason I chose this film," and continued, "I like trying things I haven't done before. I have a great curiosity about collaborating in a new environment."
Song Joong-ki confessed, "Just like I had Italian lines in 'Vincenzo', I wanted to see what it would be like to have Spanish lines this time. That curiosity was a big factor in my choice."
He further explained, "I focused on Spanish. I thought that showing Guk-hee's proper settlement in Colombia would help illustrate his transformation, so I had a strong desire to act well in Spanish. I wanted to do more than just memorize lines; I aimed to ad-lib appropriately and show a natural performance."
'Bogotá' depicts the story of Guk-hee (played by Song Joong-ki), who heads to Bogotá, Colombia, with new hopes after the IMF crisis, and becomes entangled with influential figures in the Korean community, such as Su-young (Lee Hee-joon) and Sergeant Park (Kwon Hae-hyo). The film is set to be released on the 31st.
