Singer Son Dam-bi revealed her perilous childbirth experience.
On the 30th, the TV Chosun entertainment program 'Our Baby is Born' (hereafter 'Our Baby') featured the 'Spoon Duo' Park Soo-hong & Yang Se-hyung visiting Son Dam-bi's home a day before her delivery.
Son Dam-bi shared, "I am 41 years old and considered a high-risk pregnancy, so there were many things to be cautious about. I have 'complete placenta previa,' which is difficult." To clarify for the confused Yang Se-hyung, obstetrician Kim Ji-yeon explained, "The placenta is the passage through which nutrients flow between the mother and baby. The placenta should be located above, beside, or behind the uterus, but if it is in the birth canal, it is called 'placenta previa.' If the placenta detaches first, it can lead to excessive bleeding, putting the mother at risk, and the baby may also be in danger due to a lack of oxygen and nutrients," explaining the dangers of placenta previa.
In response, Park Soo-hong said, "Still, since her husband has been taking good care of her, it seems that despite the 'placenta previa,' she is healthy up to 38 weeks," acknowledging Lee Gyu-hyuk's support. Son Dam-bi then expressed her trust in her husband, saying, "My parents had a bad relationship when I was pregnant, and they were unhappy. So I had a 'question mark' about marriage and was even more reluctant about having a baby. But I married someone I felt I could rely on. I thought I could raise a baby that looks like my husband well."
On the way to the hospital for admission, Lee Gyu-hyuk said, "I'm scared of the surgery, but I also want to see the baby quickly; it's a complex feeling. But I don't say it out loud. I can't say 'I'm worried too'..." showing the supportive husband holding Son Dam-bi's hand tightly.
As a mother with placenta previa, Son Dam-bi could only give birth via 'C-section.' On the day of the surgery, as Son Dam-bi was nervous, Lee Gyu-hyuk shared a superstition that seeing the number '1' means things will go well, showing her the phone screen displaying '11:11.' He also played Son Dam-bi's song 'On Saturday Night' and danced to ease her tension. When Lee Gyu-hyuk handed Son Dam-bi a heartfelt handwritten letter, she said, "Reading the letter made me feel at ease," with tears in her eyes from her husband's love.
Thus, Son Dam-bi entered the operating room, and Lee Gyu-hyuk expressed, "I felt so sorry for her. I thought it would be much easier if I could give birth instead. Right now, I just hope Dam-bi finishes the surgery safely." The surgery took longer than expected, and the anxious Lee Gyu-hyuk was informed by the medical staff, "About 1400ml of blood has been lost. Son Dam-bi has bled more than expected. The surgery will be over soon."
Soon after, the baby was born, and Lee Gyu-hyuk exclaimed, "Wow. She's so cute," smiling brightly at the sight of his daughter for the first time. He added, "It's so amazing. Objectively, she's cute," immediately showing his doting father side, making 'daughter fool senior' Park Soo-hong burst into laughter. Son Dam-bi also completed the surgery well and began her recovery, and Son Dam-bi & Lee Gyu-hyuk expressed their intention to raise their daughter 'Hae-yi' well.
Meanwhile, the childbirth scene of a firefighter couple, who fell in love during their shifts, was also revealed. Three days before the due date, the mother went to the hospital alone for an examination while her husband was on duty. However, she was diagnosed with 'oligohydramnios,' where the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding the fetus was abnormally low, and she was urgently admitted. She was in a situation where she could give birth at any moment, and her husband rushed to the delivery room after hearing the news.
In the meantime, 'amniotic rupture' occurred, and the baby was at risk, necessitating a quick delivery. When the medical staff explained, "An epidural reduces pain but slows down labor," the mother replied, "I'll try to endure it," choosing to refuse the epidural for the sake of her baby. Obstetrician Kim Ji-yeon explained, "The pain of labor is similar to the pain of having a finger cut off, but this pain becomes more frequent and intense, making it hard to endure."
With strong willpower, the mother endured extreme labor pains and gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Special MC Jang Seo-hee, who joined the show, was overwhelmed with emotion as she heard the loud cries of the baby alongside 'Spoon Fairy' Park Soo-hong.
