In ‘Treasure Island’, Park Hyung-sik, Heo Jun-ho, and Lee Hae-young are tightly bound by the chains of desire.
SBS's Friday-Saturday drama ‘Treasure Island’ (written by Lee Myung-hee, directed by Jin Chang-kyu) has taken over Friday and Saturday nights with its explosive storytelling. The 8th episode aired on the 15th recorded a nationwide rating of 12.3% and a capital region rating of 12.3%, breaking its own record once again. The peak rating soared to an impressive 14.1%. The unstoppable rise in viewership for ‘Treasure Island’ centers around three men, Seo Dong-joo (played by Park Hyung-sik), Yeom Jang-seon (played by Heo Jun-ho), and Heo Il-do (played by Lee Hae-young), who are tightly bound by their individual desires. They are expected to engage in a tense power game over a political slush fund of 2 trillion won and the Daesan Group in the ‘Treasure Island’ that revolves around money. So, what desires do they each hold? How did they become bound by the chains of desire?
First, Seo Dong-joo, who has narrowly escaped death several times at the hands of Yeom Jang-seon, hacked the password to the Swiss account containing the 2 trillion won political slush fund of Yeom Jang-seon’s ‘National Love Fund’ to survive. The ‘money bug’ Yeom Jang-seon can no longer freely use a single won of the slush fund without Seo Dong-joo. Holding the purse strings of Yeom Jang-seon, Seo Dong-joo will use this as a weapon and aim the blade of revenge squarely at Yeom Jang-seon.
Yeom Jang-seon is not one to just sit back and take Seo Dong-joo's counterattack. He begins to target the Daesan Group, which can grasp more money than the 2 trillion won political slush fund, by eliminating the bothersome Seo Dong-joo. To this end, Yeom Jang-seon sets up Heo Il-do as his puppet to seize the Daesan Group. For this, Yeom Jang-seon has taken advantage of Heo Il-do's weakness, having shot at Seo Dong-joo. Yeom Jang-seon intends to wield Heo Il-do's life as he pleases.
Driven to the edge, Heo Il-do also begins to reveal his hidden claws. He demands half of the 2 trillion won political slush fund from Yeom Jang-seon. He threatens that if not, he will kill Seo Dong-joo and blow the 2 trillion won into the air. At the same time, he harbors ambitions to rise to the position of chairman of the Daesan Group with Yeom Jang-seon’s support. Seo Dong-joo, too, pressures Heo Il-do by reminding him of the gun he shot him with, tightening his grip on his life.
Thus, Seo Dong-joo, Yeom Jang-seon, and Heo Il-do hold each other's lifelines and financial strings. Their relationship, bound by the chains of desire, will become more tangled and complicated unless someone gives up their desire. This is expected to provide viewers with extreme tension and thrilling enjoyment. Park Hyung-sik, Heo Jun-ho, and Lee Hae-young portray the relationships of these three characters bound by the ‘chains of desire’ with powerful performances. This is why the remaining 8 episodes of ‘Treasure Island’ are highly anticipated.
SBS's Friday-Saturday drama ‘Treasure Island’ airs every Friday at 10 PM and Saturday at 9:50 PM.
