‘The Country’s Singer in Spain’ concluded its dreamlike musical journey by creating legendary stages.
On the broadcast of KBS 2TV's music travel reality show ‘The Country’s Singer in Spain’ on the 30th of last month, the final day stories of Hwasa, Sohyang, Henry, An Shin-ae, Cloud, and Gyro were depicted.
On this day, Hwasa, Sohyang, Henry, An Shin-ae, Cloud, and Gyro set off for their last busking in the village of Sóller, filled with golden orange trees. Hwasa reminisced about her memories with the members, saying, “I think I will remember this when I go back to Korea. I feel like I will want to practice together when I wake up in the morning,” while Sohyang, overwhelmed while practicing a song, shed tears.
The members on the train eased their sadness with lively live performances. Sohyang and An Shin-ae sang ‘With You’, while Hwasa passionately performed ‘Orange Colored Sky’. As they passed through a long tunnel, An Shin-ae sang ‘Vincent’ with a calm vocal, immersing everyone in a gentle romance. After passing the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tramuntana mountain range and a viewpoint overlooking the island, they arrived in Sóller and enjoyed a sweet break tasting desserts made from oranges.
Leaving the train journey behind, Henry prepared a 360-degree stage in the circular square. Although it seemed that everything was smoothly set up with prior permission, a large crowd gathered unexpectedly, leading to the local police being dispatched. For everyone's safety, the ‘The Country’s Singer in Spain’ team ultimately decided to withdraw and moved the stage to the lakeside in front of the Mallorca Cathedral.
As it was their last busking, the members put together an extraordinary performance with carefully selected songs. Hwasa, Sohyang, and An Shin-ae reinterpreted New Jeans' ‘Ditto’ in an acoustic version. Hwasa delivered a sweet whispering tone with ‘Please Please Please’, while Sohyang showcased her incredible vocal talent with the pop ballad ‘Til You Love Me Again’ from her first regular album, along with ‘I’ll Never Love Again’.
The stage of ‘This Love’, featuring Henry's beatboxing, soulful singing, Gyro's guitar, and Cloud's piano performance, also drew cheers. An Shin-ae emotionally performed Park Hwa-yo-bi's ‘How About It’, which she first participated in as a chorus during her high school days. Starting the ‘Maria’ stage with a walking performance in front of the cathedral, Hwasa heated up the scene with her bold stage manner, singing while lying among the audience. All the members created a fantastic harmony with Big Bang's ‘Still Life’, concluding with a lingering ending.
Additionally, in Mallorca, where the national anthem composer Ahn Ik-taek ended his life, Sohyang sang the national anthem a cappella, and then, along with An Shin-ae and Hwasa, sang ‘Spring of My Hometown’, shedding tears that touched the hearts of the viewers. She added, “It is the greatest honor I can enjoy as a Korean.”
Through a short but fulfilling five-day music journey, ‘The Country’s Singer in Spain’ provided deep emotions with song selections and high-quality performances that transcended genres and generations. The vivid scenery of Mallorca, including the city hall, Palma, the cathedral, the Mediterranean Sea, and Valldemossa, enhanced the immersion and provided satisfaction and enjoyment for the viewers. Furthermore, the sight of numerous local audiences fully enjoying the performances, laughing and crying, clearly demonstrated the status of K-pop.
Meanwhile, the high-quality reality show ‘The Country’s Singer’, which explores music and culture from different ‘countries’ while searching for ‘me’ as a singer, will return next week with the Germany episode.
