Kim Young-chul meets with a chef from the Korean diaspora, known as the 'star of the San Francisco culinary scene.'

In the second part of the special Lunar New Year broadcast of KBS1's global Korean travel show ‘Kim Young-chul Goes’ (Producer Yoon Jin-kyu), a delicious journey unfolds with Michelin-starred chef Hwang Jung-in, who is making a name for Korean cuisine in San Francisco.

On this day’s broadcast, Kim Young-chul travels to San Francisco, where the fourth largest Korean population in the U.S. resides, following LA, Chicago, and New York.

The reason Kim Young-chul visits this place is to meet chef Hwang Jung-in, who is promoting the elegance of Korean cuisine in San Francisco, a city known for its fierce competition among diverse global cuisines.

Upon visiting the Michelin 3-star Korean restaurant ‘Benu,’ where Chef Hwang Jung-in serves as the executive chef, Kim Young-chul was captivated by the grand and luxurious exterior, adorned with hanging fermented soybean blocks and a unique landscape of traditional Korean jars lined up in a row.

After tasting Chef Hwang Jung-in's fine dining Korean dishes, Kim Young-chul exclaimed, “My taste buds are constantly surprised,” and expressed his admiration, saying, “I feel like I’ve succeeded. I feel elevated in status.” There is much anticipation about what special dish could have captured his palate so instantly.

Chef Hwang Jung-in, who is receiving global attention to the extent that making a reservation is like reaching for the stars, suddenly switched from being a top French chef to focusing on Korean cuisine. Curiosity arises about the story behind his decision to pursue Korean cuisine.

‘Kim Young-chul Goes’ airs today (29th) at 9:40 PM.
