In ‘The Secret of Celebrity Soldiers,’ Lee Chan-won is shocked by Audrey Hepburn's past.
The third episode of KBS2’s ‘The Secret of Celebrity Soldiers,’ airing on the 24th, will delve into the decisive reasons that led to the death of Audrey Hepburn, the creator of the ‘Elegant Hepburn Style.’
A legendary celebrity who made a mark in the fashion world, Audrey Hepburn, known as ‘Hollywood's Big Star,’ has won an Emmy, Grammy, Academy Award, and Tony Award. After retiring, the beautiful actress Audrey Hepburn traveled through conflict and poverty-stricken areas as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. In October 1992, shortly after visiting Somalia, she unexpectedly sought medical attention in Los Angeles due to severe abdominal pain. After being diagnosed with “amoebic dysentery,” she returned to the hospital the next day and received the shocking terminal prognosis that she had “only three months to live.”
Her diagnosis was colon cancer, but it was different from typical colon cancer in many ways. Despite undergoing a major surgery to remove her colon and uterus, Audrey Hepburn passed away on January 20, 1993, just a month after the surgery, at the age of 63.
After leaving Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn lived a peaceful life in the small Swiss village of Tolochenaz. She lived such a simple and modest life that even her two sons were unaware that their mother was a global star. She was known for regularly undergoing health check-ups and maintaining an organic diet from her home garden. Why did she have to leave this world so suddenly?
In response, Dr. Lee Nak-jun (doctor and author), who runs the YouTube channel ‘Doctor Friends’ with 1.2 million subscribers, explains, “Cancer is like spinning the roulette of fate.” He states that while maintaining a healthy diet can reduce the area occupied by ‘cancer’ on the board, bad luck can still lead to being affected even in a small area.
Lee Chan-won uncovers the shocking past of Audrey Hepburn, who was a teenage resistance fighter against the Nazis at the age of fifteen. He is set to reveal the amazing commonality between the Jewish girl Anne Frank and Audrey Hepburn, sparking curiosity.
Miyun, dressed in the elegant ‘Hepburn look’ and transformed into Audrey Hepburn, empathizes with her life, saying, “She looked like a bright princess, but I never knew she lived such a life,” when the reason for Hepburn's weight of only 39 kg at the height of 168 cm at the age of 16 is revealed.
It is said that Audrey Hepburn's abdomen was filled with mucus during her surgery. This rare condition is known as peritoneal pseudomyxoma, often referred to as ‘jelly belly.’ Upon receiving the diagnosis that cancer had spread throughout her abdomen along with the mucus, her long-time friend, designer Givenchy, arranged a private jet as a final Christmas gift for her. During the recording, Jang Do-yeon expressed her emotions, saying, “It’s really dramatic. So sad.”
On this day’s broadcast, director Jang Hang-jun, who has been refraining from broadcasting activities to prepare for his next project, appears to showcase his friendship with Jang Do-yeon, drawing attention. The chemistry between director Jang Hang-jun, who keeps trying to relate to Jang Do-yeon by saying, “Back in our day~,” and Jang Do-yeon, who reacts by saying, “Why are you treating me like a peer?” is expected to add to the program's fun, reminiscent of Tom and Jerry.
‘The Secret of Celebrity Soldiers’ will air on the 24th at 8:30 PM.
