The girl group NewJeans and their agency Adore, currently in a contract dispute, failed to reach an agreement in the second mediation session. As a result, the court will reach a conclusion through a ruling.
The 41st Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Jeong Hoe-il) held the second mediation session for the validity confirmation lawsuit filed by Adore against the five members of NewJeans on the 11th from 1:30 PM for 20 minutes.
Both parties were unable to reach an agreement again following the first mediation held on the 14th of last month. With two failed mediation attempts, the court plans to announce its ruling on October 30.
NewJeans and Adore have been at an impasse since the contract dispute began in November of last year.
At that time, NewJeans notified Adore of the termination of their contract due to a breakdown of trust, while Adore argued that "claiming a unilateral breakdown of trust does not constitute grounds for termination" and filed a lawsuit for the confirmation of the contract's validity, along with a request for an injunction to preserve their status as an agency and to prevent the signing of advertising contracts.
In March, the court accepted the injunction request, which meant that NewJeans could not engage in entertainment activities without prior approval or consent from Adore until the first instance ruling on the contract lawsuit was made.
The differences in positions continued in the main lawsuit as well. NewJeans maintains that "the trust relationship has broken down, making it impossible to continue the contract," while Adore counters that "there are no grounds for contract termination."
