The underage singer Jung Dong-won (18) has been sent to prosecutors on charges of driving a vehicle without a license.
According to industry sources on the 11th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office is currently investigating Jung Dong-won for violating the Road Traffic Act (unlicensed driving).
Jung Dong-won is accused of driving a vehicle without a license in Hadong, Gyeongnam, in 2023. At that time, Jung was only 16 years old, which is below the legal age to obtain a driver's license.
According to reports, in March, Jung Dong-won was threatened by a group of three individuals who had secured a mobile phone containing a video of him driving a truck, demanding 500 million won or they would leak his private life. After handing over about 100 million won, he received his phone back.
The police arrested the three individuals following a complaint from his agency, and Jung Dong-won was investigated as a victim. Subsequently, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul recognized the charges of unlicensed driving against Jung and forwarded the case to the prosecutors in June of the same year.
According to Article 82 of the Road Traffic Act, individuals aged 18 and older can obtain a license to drive vehicles, including a Class 1 general license. Driving a vehicle without a license can result in a maximum of 10 months in prison or a fine of 3 million won.
Meanwhile, Jung Dong-won gained fame by finishing 5th in the trot audition program 'Mr. Trot' aired on TV Chosun in 2020.
In March 2023, he was also caught riding a motorcycle on the Dongbu Expressway in Seoul, where motorcycle traffic is prohibited, and received a deferred prosecution decision.
