A new album from the hip-hop duo Dew, which gained explosive popularity in the 1990s, is set to be released.
According to a report by Yonhap News on the 16th, Dew member Lee Hyun-do plans to revive the voice of the late Kim Sung-jae, who passed away 30 years ago, using AI technology to release Dew's fourth album.
Lee Hyun-do stated to the media, "If all goes well, we plan to start releasing new songs by the end of this year and release Dew's official fourth album," adding, "We plan to extract Kim Sung-jae's voice from existing Dew tracks, create a new version of his voice, and complete the tracks by adding my own voice."
Formed in 1993, Dew was loved for hit songs like "Look Back at Me" and "In the Summer." However, they announced their disbandment in 1995, and that year, Kim Sung-jae's sudden passing brought great sorrow.
The last song released under the name Dew was "Love, Fear" (1997), which Lee Hyun-do added rap lyrics to, based on an unfinished song that Kim Sung-jae was set to release.
Lee Hyun-do expressed that there was a sense of regret at the time of the song's release and mentioned that he had been planning to release new Dew songs since a few years ago when AI technology began to be commercialized. Currently, he is in the process of working on new songs and looking for a company to handle voice extraction and learning.
Lee Hyun-do noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of Kim Sung-jae's passing, and he wants to showcase his impressive qualities that remain in memory, stating, "I hope this activity will engrave Sung-jae's shining image in people's minds."
