BTS members RM (Kim Nam-joon, 30) and V (Kim Tae-hyung, 29) expressed their gratitude to fans who waited for their military service and revealed their determination for full group activities.
On the 10th, RM and V, who completed their military service and were discharged, held a live broadcast on the fan communication platform Weverse around 12 PM.
During the broadcast, RM and V said, “We are Kim Nam-joon and Kim Tae-hyung, who have just been discharged. We have completed 548 days of military service.”
In the relaxed atmosphere of the live broadcast, RM shared, “I felt a bit unfair because I spent my last vacation climbing stairs and not eating lunch for two weeks. But while talking with my juniors yesterday, I lay down around 2 AM and started crying. So, I was really swollen. When I lay down yesterday, I felt all the joys and sorrows of being human.”
Reflecting on his military life, he said, “It felt like I was starting as a trainee again in my 30s. For several years, I hadn’t been scolded by anyone, but as soon as I got there, I was scolded, and I had that experience of letting go once again.”
V added, “Of course, there were tough parts during military service, but the best part was meeting various new friends.” He continued, “When I wake up, I’m with friends, and before I close my eyes, I’m with friends. Listening to different life stories and sharing experiences created unique memories.”
He also mentioned, “After going to the military, my MBTI changed. I was originally ENFP and INFP, but it changed to T. I couldn’t handle the childishness of the kids. I became completely rational. I think my empathy level has decreased a lot.”
Notably, Jin made a surprise appearance during the live broadcast, drawing attention.
Wearing a red ribbon on his head, Jin congratulated the two, saying, “Congratulations on your discharge. I am the gift,” which brought laughter. After handing over a bouquet, Jin asked, “(J)Hope didn’t come, right?” and RM and V replied, “He came and went,” indicating they had already met with J-Hope.
Towards the end of the live broadcast, the two expressed their gratitude to ARMY (BTS fandom) and their determination for future activities.
First, V said, “It’s amazing that the ARMY who waited for us. We were not exposed for a year and a half, and in that situation, you welcomed us with open arms when we were discharged, so thank you very much.”
In response, RM said, “We have plans, so please wait a little. Our last performance was in October 2022, and it’s almost been three years. It’s the first time we’ve taken such a long break from creating, but we’ve recharged as much as we rested, so we will create something fun to show you. We will work hard to let everyone know that we have returned.”
RM and V, who enlisted together in December 2023, completed their military service today, serving in the Army's 15th Infantry Division Military Band in Hwacheon and the 2nd Army Corps Military Police Special Duty Team (SDT) in Chuncheon, respectively.
With RM and V discharged, four out of the seven BTS members have now returned to civilian status, following Jin and J-Hope, who were discharged earlier. On the 11th, Jimin and Jungkook will be discharged, and Suga (Min Yoongi), who is serving as a social service agent, will be released from service on the 21st.
As a result, BTS's military hiatus, which began in December 2022, will conclude in June. The agency HYBE has stated, “We hope for BTS's full group activities in 2025,” leading the industry to anticipate a new BTS album by the end of this year or at the latest in the first half of next year.
