Robert Redford, a representative actor of Hollywood, has passed away at the age of 89.

The New York Times reported on the 16th (local time) that Redford died in his sleep at his home in Utah, citing comments from Cindy Berger, CEO of the PR agency Rogers & Cowan PMK.

Redford was beloved as one of Hollywood's top stars, appearing in numerous films such as "Shoot for Tomorrow," "The Great Gatsby," "All the President's Men," "Out of Africa," "The Sting," and "The River Wild."

He also made his debut as a director, winning the Academy Award for Best Director in 1980 for "Ordinary People," and received the Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.

Additionally, Redford established the Sundance Film Festival, focusing on low-budget independent films and documentaries, working to bring various works to the world.

He also participated in international environmental and peace movements, striving to promote a correct awareness of the environment through film and other means.
