A poignant meeting between Kang Ha-neul and power figure Yeom Hye-ran.
On the morning of the 14th, at the production presentation of the Netflix movie ‘84 Square Meters’ held at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel, Kang Ha-neul said, “As soon as I read the script, I felt like it was a storyboard. I read it all the way through while sitting.”
‘84 Square Meters’ is an unpredictable thriller about Woosung (Kang Ha-neul), a member of the “young people who are heavily in debt” who successfully buys an 84 square meter apartment, suffering from mysterious noise from the floor above. It captures the suspense between characters surrounding the floor noise in a standard 84 square meter apartment.
He stated, “Usually, scripts are written to help readers understand, but the script written by the director felt like a storyboard meant for directing. As soon as I saw the script, I could envision the director's style,” showing his trust.
Regarding his character ‘Woosung’, he introduced, “I feel sorry for him even before introducing him. He is a young man who has worked very hard, buying an apartment by exhausting his housing loan, retirement funds, one-room deposit, and even his mother’s land. However, after moving into the apartment, he becomes increasingly weakened due to unexplained floor noise, causing him stress.”
In contrast to the poignant Kang Ha-neul, Yeom Hye-ran plays Eun-hwa, the representative resident living in the top-floor penthouse. This character is completely different from her previous work ‘Poksak Sogassuda’.
Feeling “nervous and excited,” Yeom Hye-ran explained, “Eun-hwa is a different type of character from those I have played so far.”
She emphasized, “She is a character that is not commonly seen and is a wealthy figure with power. As a former prosecutor, she knows how to evade the law. I approached this character with the thought that she might help fulfill my desires. If used well, I felt that I could benefit from this person.”
‘84 Square Meters’, featuring Kang Ha-neul, Yeom Hye-ran, and Seo Hyun-woo, will be released worldwide on Netflix on the 18th.
