Tom Cruise's 'Mission: Impossible 8' has taken over the box office upon its release, while the new domestic film 'High Five' is also ready to make its debut.

According to the integrated computer network of the Korean Film Council on the 21st, 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning' (directed by Christopher McQuarrie) attracted 101,169 viewers the previous day, maintaining its position at the top of the box office. The cumulative audience count has reached 971,542.

Released on the 17th, 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning' is an action blockbuster where Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the IMF team members risk their lives to undertake a single mission amidst a dire crisis threatening all of humanity. This film follows 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning' released in 2023 and is the first in the series to be invited to the Cannes Film Festival (non-competitive section).

Most notably, 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning' attracted 423,948 viewers in just one day, significantly surpassing the first-day audience count of Bong Joon-ho's 'Mickey 17' (248,047 viewers) released in February, setting the highest opening record of the year.

The second place is occupied by 'Opposition' (directed by Hwang Byeong-guk), which gathered 12,485 viewers during the same period, bringing its cumulative audience count to 3,236,225.

'Opposition' is a crime action film that unfolds as a broker designing the drug trade in South Korea, a prosecutor aiming for higher positions, and a detective who is committed to eradicating drug crimes, all intertwining with different objectives. Directed and acted by Hwang Byeong-guk, it stars Kang Ha-neul, Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-joon, Ryu Kyung-soo, and Chae Won-bin. It surpassed the break-even point (2.5 million) during the recent holiday period.

In third place is 'The Break' (directed by Man Kyu-dong), which attracted 4,803 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience count to 503,712.

As of 7:55 PM, the real-time ticket reservation rate is also led by 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning', with a reservation rate of 47.9% and 131,385 tickets sold. The new domestic film 'High Five', which is 9 days away from its release, is ranked 2nd.
