Actor Kim Nam-gil cited ‘colleagues’ as the reason for his decision to appear in ‘Broken’.
On the morning of the 6th, at the production presentation of the movie ‘Broken’ held at Lotte Cinema in Konkuk University, Kim Nam-gil said, “When I received the offer, Jung Man-sik was already cast. It’s a different genre from my previous work, and since he is an actor I like, I expressed my desire to work together.”
He continued, “Personally, I enjoy raw roles like in a road movie, so that aspect was intriguing. Of course, I was also very interested in the director.”
He also mentioned his connection with Han Jae-deok, the CEO of the production company Sanai Pictures, saying, “I have been renting in the Sanai Pictures building for nearly five years, and they give me a good deal on rent. They said if I participate this time, they would extend my lease for another year, so I decided to do it,” which brought laughter.
Reuniting with Jung Woo-sung, he said, “The advantages of meeting him again after my previous work were much greater,” adding, “Jung Woo-sung is a humorous actor and always brings joy to the set, but this time I saw a raw, edgy side of him.”
He remarked, “This time, the approach to the character was something I had never seen before. While ‘The Closet’ was serious, it didn’t have the deep, rich feeling that this one does. I was able to see Jung Woo-sung as an actor from the perspective of a fan, which I appreciated.”
The movie ‘Broken’ (directed by Kim Jin-hwang) is a crime thriller that depicts the story of various human characters chasing the truth behind a murder case similar to that of a bestselling author’s novel. The project, long referred to as ‘Night Walk’, began filming in January 2021 and was completed in April. It is being released to audiences a full four years after the crank-in date.
In the film, Jung Woo-sung plays ‘Min-tae’, a former gangster who has left that life behind to work as a construction laborer, while Kim Nam-gil portrays ‘Ho-ryeong’, a writer of the bestselling novel ‘Night Walk’, who foresees the death of Min-tae’s brother.
When Min-tae’s suddenly missing brother returns as a corpse, he embarks on a quest to uncover the truth of that fateful night, entangled with his brother’s wife and the bestselling novel that predicted the incident. Kim Nam-gil and Jung Woo-sung reunite again after the movie ‘The Closet’ (2020).
It will be released on February 5.
