Former SBS announcer and broadcaster Kim Sung-kyung referred to her husband as 'the best man' but humorously described her married life as being like a "chief of staff."
On the 8th, Kim Sung-kyung appeared on SBS Plus·E Channel's entertainment show 'Solo Because,' invited to Oh Jung-yeon's housewarming along with Kim Kyung-ran. The three, all former terrestrial announcers, shared everything from light updates to deep personal stories without reservation.
In particular, Kim Sung-kyung's love story, having raised her son alone for over 20 years before remarrying a businessman who is a year younger in 2020, drew attention. Her husband is known to have significant wealth, having established a mobility company worth 300 billion won and operating a premium taxi platform, which made headlines at the time of their remarriage.
When asked about the reason for her decision to remarry, Kim Sung-kyung shared, "To be honest, when I first met my husband, we both had a poor first impression. I had done my makeup for a broadcast recording, but he said he never thought I was pretty."
She continued, "I thought meeting him would lift my spirits since I was feeling down from a bad recording, but he seemed even more depressed than I was. I realized I could forget my own sadness by listening to someone else's. I appreciated that he listened well to my gloomy stories."
She added, "We had something in common: our fathers passed away around the same time. My husband had lost his father just a few months prior, and the day after I met him, my father passed away. I didn't invite him to the funeral since I had only met my father once, but he came after reading the obituary. I was so surprised."
She recalled, "My husband felt that if he came here after reading the obituary, it would really mean something, and since he had lost his father a few months ago, it didn't feel like someone else's loss to him. At first, I was shocked, but as time went on, I was really grateful that he came. It suddenly made me feel like I wasn't alone, and that became the most decisive factor for me."
Kim Sung-kyung expressed, "I worked really hard, but half of what I earned went to my child's tuition and the other half to my living expenses. I had no plans for retirement, and I felt gloomy about what my future would be like. I wondered what I had been doing all this time without saving money, but my husband said, 'Why should you feel ashamed about not having money? You worked for your honor. It's normal for someone who worked for honor to be broke. Don't be ashamed of not having money; rather, think of it as living well.' I was completely moved by those words."
She stated, "I think my husband is the best man in my life," but also candidly admitted, "However, living together does have its moments that can be really frustrating and infuriating. I feel like I'm living as a chief of staff, always minding my husband's feelings."
Additionally, she remarked, "Marriage isn't just about happiness, is it? Still, I think I made the right choice. Being together in this difficult and complicated world gives me strength," revealing her deep affection for her husband.
