Actor Choi Hyun-wook has come under scrutiny for safety issues after throwing a fastball during a first pitch at a professional baseball game, prompting the mother of the child who threw the first pitch to speak out.
On the 11th, the mother of the child who threw the first pitch, referred to as A, commented on a social media post that shared the related first pitch video, stating, "I am the mother of the child who threw the first pitch that day," and added, "I believed it would be conducted safely, but looking back now, it’s terrifying."
The controversy arose during the playoff game held on the 9th at Incheon SSG Landers Field. Choi Hyun-wook, wearing sunglasses, stepped onto the mound and threw the ball with force, but his control was shaky, causing the ball to veer off to the side.
As a result, the ball quickly headed towards the child's head, who was preparing to throw the first pitch, nearly leading to a serious accident. The audience gasped in shock upon witnessing this.
As criticism of the first pitch grew, Choi Hyun-wook expressed his regret on the 10th through a fan communication platform, stating, "I was really nervous during the first pitch, which caused the ball to go off. If I can get in touch with the child and their parents, I will apologize. I should have thrown the ball slowly from a closer distance when the child was standing there, but I didn’t think of that. I am truly sorry."
Before becoming an actor, Choi Hyun-wook played baseball until the first year of high school. In 2017, while in the third year of middle school, he played as a catcher for the Suwon Buk Middle School baseball team and led the team to victory in the 47th President's Cup National Middle School Baseball Championship.
Choi Hyun-wook, who recently finished filming the tvN drama 'The Guy is a Black Dragon', is set to present his next project, the Netflix series 'The Last Row Boy'.
