Actress Youn Yuh-jung shared the behind-the-scenes story of her character, which was originally a mother in the film's source material, being changed to a grandmother during the remake process.

On the 19th, Youn Yuh-jung attended the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) with her new film 'Wedding Banquet'.

The film, officially invited to the 'World Cinema' section of the festival, features a sharp-witted grandmother who gets involved in the unpredictable comedy surrounding a fake marriage plan of two same-sex couples. It is a remake of the film of the same name directed by Ang Lee, which won the Golden Bear at the 1993 Berlin Film Festival.

During the press conference for 'Wedding Banquet' held at the Busan Cinema Center's BIFF Hill on the afternoon of the same day, she introduced herself by saying, "I play the role of the sharp-witted grandmother, Ja-young. In the original setting, I was the mother of the third-generation chaebol grandson, Min (played by Han Ki-chan)."

She continued, "When I first received the offer, I was supposed to play the mother role, just like in the original. But Han Ki-chan is in his 20s, right? It felt too much, so I suggested that I would play the grandmother instead," revealing the behind-the-scenes story.

Regarding the praise and expectations that "even the same role is not ordinary and is interpreted differently," she humbly stated, "Whether it's ordinary or not, I can't be someone who makes plans when I act. I just read the script a lot, and I get to know the character's personality, and I feel like I want to express it this way."

Additionally, she added, "I tend to digest roles in that way. I don't really know how different it is from other performances."
