Comedian Jang Dong-min has hit the jackpot by obtaining a patent for an eco-friendly one-touch label in nine countries around the world.
On the 11th, Jang Dong-min appeared on MBC's 'Save Me! Homes' alongside Park Na-rae and Yang Se-chan, where they visited a legal town in Seocho-dong.
While the three were inspecting a luxury villa next to the Supreme Court, Jang Dong-min took out a beverage bottle for which he holds a patent and said, “The world uses horizontal labels, but I developed a vertical label.”
Yang Se-hyung responded, “That’s a great idea. If the world uses this idea, doesn’t that mean you hold the patent?” expressing his envy.
Jang Dong-min explained about “how to obtain a patent,” saying, “You need to apply to the patent office and get it registered. Of course, you have to pay money,” adding, “In our country, the application fee is 46,000 won, the examination request fee is 143,000 won, and after registration, you have to pay 45,000 won each year for three years.”
He continued, “I have already filed patents in nine countries,” and mentioned, “Overseas patents are more expensive.” He also added, “Currently, I am collaborating with a machinery development company in Germany,” and said, “I think we will be able to present the product to consumers by the end of this year.”
Jang Dong-min filed for a patent for the one-touch label in 2021 and completed the official registration the following year. Based on this, he founded the eco-friendly startup 'Blue Sky' in 2023.
In the same year, he gained attention by winning the Director's Award from the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute, which corresponds to third place in the 'Environmental Startup Competition' hosted by the Ministry of Environment.
