Baek Ji-yeon, a former MBC announcer, has expressed her interest in high-priced artworks.
On the 8th, Baek Ji-yeon released a video titled "I want to buy this piece even if I have to sell my house. How can I?" on her YouTube channel.
Baek Ji-yeon stated, "I am at the venue where the world-renowned art fair 'Frieze Seoul' is being held," and added, "Many galleries from around the world have gathered here, making it not just a place to buy and sell artworks, but a cultural hub."
Introducing a piece by Andrea Galvani, she said, "This has caught my eye for a long time," and explained, "It is a work that contains only apples that have gone extinct on Earth. It serves as a reminder of the species that are disappearing due to human error."
She then revealed, "In fact, I have purchased this piece. I will place it by the window in my office."
There was also a piece by the master Yayoi Kusama. She remarked, "Even a very small item has an enormous price. It's a small piece, but it costs $760,000 (about 1.05 billion won). It must have the author's signature on the back. The title 'PRAY FOR LOVE' is so nice," and added, "Everyone wants to own that piece. But it's too expensive. This place offers a better price than others because it's a gallery where you receive the artwork immediately. Should I sell my house?" she joked.
Meanwhile, Baek Ji-yeon was selected as the female anchor for the '9 o'clock News Desk' just five months after joining MBC. She served for 8 years and 3 months, becoming the youngest and longest-serving 9 o'clock news anchor in the country. Baek Ji-yeon's son, Kang Mo, married the second daughter of Chung Mong-won, chairman of HL Group, in 2023.
