Actor Song Joong-ki shared his feelings about returning to melodrama after a long time.

On the 4th, the press conference for JTBC's new Friday drama ‘My Youth’ (written by Park Si-hyun, directed by Lee Sang-yeob and Ko Hye-jin) was held at The Link Hotel in Seoul. Attendees included Song Joong-ki, Jeon Woo-hee, Lee Joo-myung, Seo Ji-hoon, and director Lee Sang-yeob.

‘My Youth’ depicts the emotional romance between Sun Woo-hae (played by Song Joong-ki), who starts a normal life later than others, and Seong Je-yeon (played by Jeon Woo-hee), who unexpectedly has to disrupt the tranquility of her first love. The story promises to deliver warmth and excitement as it follows the journey of reclaiming forgotten pieces of ‘me’ through a reunion with a first love that gifted a dazzling moment in a dark and shadowy place.

Although Song Joong-ki debuted as a child actor, he now takes on the role of Sun Woo-hae, a novelist and flower shop owner after many twists and turns.

With this project, Song Joong-ki returns to the romance genre for the first time in 9 years since KBS’s ‘Descendants of the Sun’. He said, “Now that I think about it, it’s true. It wasn’t intentional, but I feel excited to be doing a romance genre after a long time.”

He added, “Melodrama is the genre that actors are most eager for. It is for me. It was enjoyable and an honor to work with an exciting script after a long time.”

Song Joong-ki explained, “Although my career isn’t long, looking back at my characters, I realized there are many fantasy genres. In ‘Wolf Boy’, I played a werewolf, and in ‘Vincenzo’, I portrayed a hero-like character that seemed fictional. Thinking about it, I had many characters that weren’t grounded. I wanted to play a more everyday character, someone realistic, and that’s what ‘My Youth’ is, so I’m excited and had fun filming thanks to the director.”

‘My Youth’ will premiere on the 5th at 8:50 PM.
