Actress Yum Hye-ran revealed the reason for rejecting advertisements despite receiving much love for 'Poksak Sogassuda'.
On the 3rd, Yum Hye-ran appeared on MBC's 'Questions from Son Seok-hee' and shared various stories.
Yum Hye-ran left a deep impression playing the role of Gwang-rye, the mother of Ae-soon, in the Netflix series 'Poksak Sogassuda', which was released in March.
Yum Hye-ran said, "There isn't a single person who doesn't have a story like this when I think of my mother. Everyone has gone through difficult times," and added, "I thought that to bring out a living performance, we should carefully look into their lives rather than approaching it technically or designing it, as the script was so well written."
MC Son Seok-hee mentioned the popularity of 'Poksak Sogassuda' and said, "It seems like you intentionally didn't do advertisements."
In response, Yum Hye-ran said, "There weren't many offers," but added, "I want to take this opportunity to say that it was a very grateful offer, but I didn't have the time or leisure to shoot advertisements, so it was inevitably not possible."
Yum Hye-ran also explained, "The character Gwang-rye was too big and poignant for me. I think the viewers felt the same way, so I wanted to leave a lasting impression. The character is so precious that I wanted to keep it clean and untainted by anything else."
MC Son Seok-hee empathized, saying, "It must be a dilemma. From the advertiser's perspective, they think it would be effective to have the model before the Gwang-rye image fades away, while actress Yum has a different stance. If they wait, it becomes a dilemma for the advertisers because time has passed. Still, I resonate with your desire to protect that character dearly."
Hearing this, Yum Hye-ran said, "I don't dislike advertisements. I really like them. It's just that I thought they wouldn't come in," and joked, "It seems to depend on the work or character. If it were a more lively character, I might shoot an advertisement, but this work was special."
Son Seok-hee responded, "I roughly understand why you say that. Don't worry. I think the next advertisers will seek out actress Yum even more because of this. I can assure you."
Yum Hye-ran is set to appear in the movie 'There’s Nothing We Can Do', which is scheduled to be released on the 24th. 'There’s Nothing We Can Do' is the new work by director Park Chan-wook and is an invited film at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, depicting the story of a man, Mansu (Lee Byung-hun), who, after being fired from his job, seeks re-employment to protect his wife, Miri (Son Ye-jin), and their children.
