Two women who were indicted for extorting approximately 200 million won from YouTuber Tzuyang (real name Park Jung-won) have been sentenced to prison terms in the first trial.
On the 20th, Judge Koo Chang-kyu of the 12th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced a 30-year-old woman, Song, to 2 years in prison with a 4-year suspended sentence, and a 20-year-old woman, Kim, to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 4-year suspended sentence for charges of joint extortion under the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts.
The court stated, "The duration of the crime was long, and the amount extorted was large, making the crime serious," and added, "The defendants acknowledged their responsibility and expressed their intention to apologize through their representatives from the investigation stage. They also repaid an amount exceeding the extorted sum to the victim and reached an agreement, with the victim not wishing for punishment."
The two women are accused of extorting 216 million won from Tzuyang through threats to reveal past information from June 2021 to November 2022 via the PD of Tzuyang's YouTube channel. Song is also charged with attempting to demand an additional 15 million won in 2023 on the condition of not revealing personal information, but this attempt was unsuccessful.
