Comedian Lee Sung-mi confessed that she had made an extreme attempt in the past.

On the 19th, a video titled “Comedian Lee Sung-mi Episode 4 (Trials and Overcoming During Her Prime!)” was released on Song Seung-hwan's YouTube web entertainment show ‘Wonderful Life’.

Song Seung-hwan mentioned Lee Sung-mi's past, saying, “You went through your prime in the 80s and faced a life crisis in the late 80s. I think I heard some talk about suicide during that time.”

In response, Lee Sung-mi said, “It was really hard back then. Living as a comedian was so unbearable that it made me want to vomit.”

Song Seung-hwan asked, “Why would you feel that way when you’re doing what you want?” and Lee Sung-mi replied, “In the past, entertainers were looked down upon. It felt like we were seen as funny people, not just amusing. It was a time when the emptiness of life hit me hard.”

She continued, “I was hurt a lot by those around me and thought, ‘What’s the point of living? If I keep going, it will just end in death.’ Those thoughts matured around the age of thirty, and I felt like I wanted to die. I heard that taking pills and drinking would lead to death. Back then, I could buy sleeping pills (without a prescription). I took 70 sleeping pills and drank alcohol because I heard that would kill me, but I woke up after four hours,” explaining that she actually attempted to make an extreme choice.

Lee Sung-mi said, “I was supposed to die, but I didn’t. So I went to the emergency room for treatment. (This incident) turned my life upside down. It created misunderstandings upon misunderstandings. During that time, I enjoyed life and led it, but I think I spent about a year going through a painful and difficult time being dragged along by life. I also took a break from broadcasting,” evoking sympathy.

Her return was due to the encouragement of Bae Cheol-ho. Lee Sung-mi said, “Teacher Bae Cheol-ho told me, ‘Don’t just sit around, shouldn’t you start working?’ so I started as an extra,” adding, “In the early 90s, when SBS was established, I got a call and went. It was my second prime.”
