American children's music artist Johnny Only is currently engaged in a six-year-long plagiarism lawsuit against Pinkfong, which has gained worldwide popularity with 'Baby Shark' and 'Shark Family'. Recently, he has garnered attention by releasing an EDM version of his song 'Baby Shark' in collaboration with a domestic company.
On the 24th of last month, Johnny Only unveiled the new EDM version of 'Baby Shark', titled SEFO (Cell), Geeni's 'Baby Shark (Baby Shark Kids Remix)(feat. Johnny Only)', along with its music video in collaboration with the domestic company Action Kids Co., Ltd.
The introduction of this song features a fast-paced rendition of Johnny Only's 'Baby Shark', and the music video showcases new dance moves instead of the well-known hand gestures mimicking a shark's mouth.
The choreography involves raising one hand above the head in the shape of a shark fin, shaking the hips, and jumping back and forth, accompanied by the catchy refrain of "Doom-chit doom-chit" and "Ddu-ru ddu-ru" that repeats throughout.
Notably, this choreography has been newly developed by the Grunt Zero team, led by Kim Tae-jun, who operates a children's club and has created 'Cell Gymnastics', and it is expected to spark a new trend among children.
Currently, it is gaining popularity as it is played in family-oriented resorts and swimming pools during the summer season, and a shark gymnastics challenge is being attempted on social media.
Meanwhile, Action Kids Co., Ltd. has introduced not only a new Baby Shark song but also new shark characters. Unlike the existing Baby Shark family consisting of mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa, they have named the new characters 'Sharkrang', symbolizing the coexistence of humans and sharks, and expressed various types of sharks.
The main shark characters are 'Sharkping', a pink shark, and 'Sharkblue', a blue shark, and interest is growing in the stories that these shark characters will create in the future.
The characters are being developed by Nari Production (CEO Kim Nari), which has previously created children's characters such as 'Giggle and Friends' and 'Daebong-i'.
As Johnny Only embarks on a new 'Baby Shark' project with a domestic company, attention is focused on whether he can surpass the popularity and reputation that Pinkfong has built up. This is because Johnny Only has thrown down the gauntlet to Pinkfong regarding the song, characters, and choreography of Baby Shark through Action Kids Co., Ltd.
Meanwhile, the plagiarism lawsuit that Johnny Only filed against 'The Pinkfong Company', which produced 'Baby Shark', is set for a Supreme Court ruling on August 14.
