The prosecution has requested the court to impose a prison sentence on lawyer Kang Yong-seok and others for spreading false information about Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate during the 20th presidential election.
On the 16th, during the sentencing hearing for the case of public election law violations at the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Division 27 (Presiding Judge Woo In-seong), the prosecution sought a sentence of 1 year and 6 months for lawyer Kang Yong-seok and 1 year for Kim Se-yeon, the representative of the Conservative Party.
Lawyer Kang was indicted in September 2022 for allegedly stating on a YouTube broadcast that President Lee had been to a juvenile detention center during his childhood.
Representative Kim is accused of raising suspicions that the fall accident in November 2021, which injured President Lee's wife Kim Hye-kyung at their home, was a result of a domestic dispute.
Lawyer Kang and Representative Kim's side denied the charges, stating through the trial that they merely raised suspicions and did not make definitive statements.
The sentencing will take place on the 20th of next month at 2:10 PM.
