Comedian Lee Soo-geun's (48) wife, Park Ji-yeon, is set to undergo a kidney transplant surgery this month.
According to OSEN on the 2nd, this time her biological brother is stepping up as the kidney donor, and they are currently undergoing detailed examinations ahead of the surgery.
Park received a kidney transplant from her father in 2011 due to kidney strain caused by pregnancy-induced hypertension during her second son, Tae-seo's, pregnancy. However, the transplanted kidney did not settle properly, and she has been receiving dialysis treatment since then.
In 2021, she was advised by medical staff to consider a re-transplant and was placed on the waiting list for a brain-dead donor.
At that time, Park expressed her feelings on social media, saying, “I moved around in the morning to check my blood vessels,” and “I was told that the blood flow is too strong, and while it may not be an immediate issue, it could put a strain on my heart in the long term, and that there could be problems with my blood vessels. I still don’t feel anything physically, but I was advised to consider a re-transplant since I’m still young, which made me think a lot.”
She added, “It’s not like the transplant will happen right away, but even while waiting for a brain-dead donor, I didn’t expect it. The words of the doctor kept echoing in my ears, and for a moment, I found hope in the warm words and gaze of the nurse. They say ten years can change a river and mountain; could my life change too?”
Park married Lee Soo-geun, who is 12 years older than her, in December 2008, and they have two sons together. She has previously confessed to experiencing moon face symptoms, one of the side effects of steroids, after her kidney transplant surgery.
