Musical actress Choi Jung-won has won the Best Supporting Actress award.
The 9th Korea Musical Awards was held on the evening of the 13th at the Universal Art Center in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. Musical actor Lee Gun-myung, who has been with the Korea Musical Awards since its inception, served as the MC, and The M.C Orchestra joined again this year.
The nominees for Best Supporting Actress included Kim Sun-young (Dear Evan Hansen), Kim Ji-woo (Kinky Boots), Choi Jung-won (Hadestown), Choi Ji-hye (Park Yeol), and Hong Seo-young (Dear Evan Hansen).
Choi Jung-won, who played the role of Hermes in 'Hadestown' and gained attention for her gender-free casting, began her speech by saying, "I felt like I would definitely win today." She continued, "I want to thank my mother, who is in heaven, for raising me to be a positive and energetic actress who feels like I live every day perfectly. I am also very grateful that my mother was able to leave my side while I was performing as the first Asian to play Hermes in a gender-free way. I want to thank the audience who have loved 'Hadestown' so generously in 2024. I miss you so much, Mom," as she shed tears.
The 9th Korea Musical Awards is a musical awards ceremony organized by the Korea Musical Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts Council. It analyzes and evaluates the trends of the musical market over the year and selects the award winners through fair voting by a panel of experts and audience votes.
