The court has requested a detailed explanation of the asset formation process from the older brother and sister-in-law of broadcaster Park Soo-hong, who have been indicted for embezzling his appearance fees.
On the 13th, the 7th Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court held the 6th hearing of the appeal trial for Park Soo-hong's older brother, Mr. Park, and sister-in-law, Ms. Lee, who are charged with violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (embezzlement). The hearing was attended by the couple, their legal team, and Park Soo-hong's attorney.
The court requested the couple, saying, "You have acquired 4 properties, repaid debts secured by existing properties, and taken out several insurance policies. It seems that these financial assets have also increased, so we would like you to specifically organize how the asset status differs between the two parties."
Additionally, they instructed, "It seems that the main source of income was almost entirely from Park Soo-hong's entertainment activities. Please explain why there is a difference in the degree of asset formation between the two parties based on this income."
Park Soo-hong's older brother and sister-in-law are accused of embezzling hundreds of millions of won from the entertainment company Rael and Media Bun, as well as from Park Soo-hong's personal funds, while managing his affairs from 2011 to 2021. The prosecution has sought a 7-year prison sentence for Park Soo-hong's older brother and a 3-year sentence for his sister-in-law, but the court only acknowledged the charges against the older brother. Both parties have appealed.
The next hearing is scheduled for August 20.
