Top star So Ji-sub (47) confessed about his difficult family background, stating, "I started acting to earn money."
On the 9th, actor So Ji-sub appeared on the YouTube channel 'Jjanhan Hyung Shin Dong-yeob' alongside 2PM member and actor Ok Taec-yeon.
During the episode, while sharing anecdotes with Shin Dong-yeob and Song Seung-heon, So Ji-sub revealed his family story. So Ji-sub, who is part of a drinking group with Shin Dong-yeob, Lee Byung-hun, and Song Seung-heon, disclosed, "In the past, Shin Dong-yeob told Song Seung-heon, 'Don't hang out with that guy.'
Shin Dong-yeob responded, "It was before we filmed 'Three Men and Three Women,' and since Seung-heon was close to Ji-sub, he would come over sometimes. At first, I wondered where this guy came from. Back then, he was wearing a denim jacket with a lot of stuff hanging off it," referring to So Ji-sub's appearance, which made him think of the 'Orange Tribe' from Apgujeong.
Shin Dong-yeob continued, "I warned Seung-heon that hanging out with someone like him would lead to bad influences, but Seung-heon said, 'Ji-sub is not like that.' I continued, 'He's from a rich family,' but it turned out he was actually supporting his single mother and grandmother, struggling to keep the household afloat. Seung-heon was surprisingly from a well-off family," expressing his regret about the misunderstanding at that time.
So Ji-sub shared, "At that time, I was living in Incheon and stayed at Seung-heon's house to save on transportation costs. He is a precious person to me, like a benefactor," expressing his gratitude.
So Ji-sub entered the entertainment industry to make a living and rose to stardom with the character Kang In-wook in the drama 'What Happened in Bali.'
He mentioned, "The character in the drama was very similar to me, which made it even harder. Living with a single mother was too much like my own life," adding, "Until then, I acted to earn money because I had none, but this was the first project where I didn't have to act for money. However, it was mentally challenging."
As he approaches his 30th anniversary in the industry, he reflected, "I always think about what new faces and new acting I can bring. If I'm having such thoughts, the viewers probably have the same thoughts," seriously contemplating the difficulty of finding a new persona.
So Ji-sub made his comeback through the new Netflix series 'The Square,' which was released on the 6th. In 'The Square,' where he plays the lead role, the story revolves around a character who, after cutting ties with his Achilles' heel and leaving the world of the square, returns after 11 years due to the death of his brother, the second-in-command of an organization, to seek revenge and uncover the truth behind it.
