Kim Hye-eun, an actress from the vocal department of Seoul National University, has apologized for her remarks targeting writer Yoo Si-min, who graduated from the economics department of the same university.
On the 4th, Kim Hye-eun posted a handwritten letter on her social media, stating, “I sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable or distressed due to the post I made on May 31,” bowing her head.
She expressed, “As someone who has spoken for a long time, I have once again learned the weight of words through this incident,” and reiterated her apology, saying, “I will not forget this realization and will strive to be a more disciplined actress.”
In particular, she added, “In the future, I will think more deeply about the impact of my thoughts and expressions as an actress on society and will approach my role as a public figure with caution and responsibility.”
Earlier, on the 28th, writer Yoo made a controversial statement on the YouTube channel ‘Kim Eo-jun’s Das Baeida,’ saying, “The position of being the spouse of a presidential candidate from a major party (Kim Moon-soo) is a place that Seol Nan-young can hardly reach in her life.”
At that time, Yoo stated, “This person is currently floating in the air. In other words, it means they are not in their right mind,” and claimed, “Mr. Kim Moon-soo is such an extraordinary person that Seol Nan-young feels that she is not balanced with him. She might feel elevated through marrying such a man. After living a rough life, she became a member of parliament's wife. She will look up to her husband even more.”
After the controversy arose, Yoo apologized, saying, “It was my fault that the expression was rough.” He also explained that the phrase “not in their right mind” meant “not being able to make purposeful and rational judgments.” He added, “What Seol Nan-young is doing is something that undermines her husband’s votes.”
In response, on the 31st of last month, Kim Hye-eun criticized Yoo’s remarks, saying, “I don’t think I have ever been embarrassed by my education from Seoul National University like yesterday or today. I want to convey my apologies on behalf of those who feel this way. I am not a rotten intellectual who looks down on high school graduates while boasting about graduating from Seoul National University.” After her post became controversial online, Kim Hye-eun deleted it and disabled the comment function.
Kim Hye-eun joined Cheongju MBC as an announcer in 1997. After working as a freelance weathercaster for MBC, she left in 2004 and transitioned to acting, participating in numerous works.
