The boy group Omega X has announced that a YouTube operator who spread fake news has been sent to the prosecutors with a recommendation for indictment.
On the 27th, Omega X's agency IPQ stated, "The YouTube channel operator, who has repeatedly spread deadly fake news since July 2023, has once again harassed the members who have come out of a dark long tunnel after suffering verbal abuse, physical assault, and sexual harassment from a former agency director, was decided to be sent for indictment on March 18."
According to the agency, the YouTube channel 'K-pop idol trainer In Ji-woong' is accused of broadcasting fake news that defamed the members, claiming, "The transfer process of Omega X to a new agency was pre-planned among SBS, IPQ, and Omega X," "The members who suffered verbal and physical abuse actually provoked the former agency executive to orchestrate this," and "The criminal complaints filed by the members were all concluded without charges in May 2023."
Omega X's legal representative, lawyer Noh Jong-eon (Law Firm Jeongji), stated, "This is a representative case showing how unverified false facts spread by cyber bullies have destroyed celebrities," and added, "Victims have endured great fear, anxiety, and isolation for two years amid planned obstruction and delay strategies, and it is now necessary for the Cyber Bullying Prevention Act to be legislated promptly."
Previously, the police sent a former agency director to prosecutors on the 7th for allegedly committing sexual assault (sexual harassment through work-related power) against six members of Omega X between July and September 2022.
Additionally, during a tour in the United States in October 2022, the former agency director was fined 500,000 won and was subject to summary indictment for assault after forcefully pulling the hood of a T-shirt, causing a fall, but is contesting this and undergoing a formal trial.
