(Following Interview①) She truly excels at everything. The stage, satire (parody), makeup—she is a true multi-talented performer. I met the trending comedienne Lee Soo-ji (41).
Meeting her at a café in Samcheong-dong on the 26th, she mentioned that although she is active in various fields, her foundation is 'traditional comedy.'
Lee Soo-ji stated, "No matter how busy I am or how many different fields I challenge myself in, I will never let go of 'traditional comedy.' That is my foundation," adding, "I always feel excited on stage. It's thrilling. Meeting the public with various characters, sometimes I may cause misunderstandings or discomfort while bringing laughter, but overcoming that and working hard to make people laugh and create joy is my job."
She continued, "Honestly, I tend to read 'comments' diligently, and I often get emotional. I receive a lot of DMs as well. I find comfort and strength from that feedback. Of course, there are many negative comments. I cry then too. I tend to express my emotions honestly."
As she has become a trend, she is experiencing various evaluations and reactions. Lee Soo-ji pointed to 'her husband's genuine love' as the driving force behind her continuous challenges despite these storms.
Lee Soo-ji said, "I think the reason many people love me is that I keep challenging myself. It seems they view it positively as 'she is living earnestly' and 'she is making an effort,'" adding, "And the driving force behind this effort, the courage to keep challenging myself, is thanks to my husband's unwavering support."
She remarked, "I think it was after getting married that I started to expose my belly on 'SNL Korea,' create characters that required courage, and show new things. It was possible because he always tells me that I can do well, that it's okay, and that I'm wonderful, respecting and supporting my work. Thanks to that, my work has become more enjoyable. I sincerely thank him."
Meanwhile, Lee Soo-ji debuted as a comedian in 2008 with SBS's 10th open recruitment and in 2012 with KBS's 27th open recruitment. She gained popularity in the 'Gag Concert' wilderness corner, rose to stardom with the Coupang Play comedy show 'SNL Korea' series, and has acted in numerous works such as 'Falling in Love with Purity,' 'Queen of Tears,' 'Jumping with Sunjae,' and the 'New Recruit' series. On her YouTube channel 'Hot Issue Ji,' she is at the center of attention with various real satire content, actively establishing herself as a true trendsetter.
