‘Weak Hero Class 2’ has released character stills that raise heart rates.
Set to be released on the 25th, the Netflix series ‘Weak Hero Class 2’ tells the story of a model student, Yeon Si-eun, who transfers to Eunjang High School with the trauma of having fought against violence for a friend but ultimately failing to protect them. To ensure she never loses a friend again, she faces even greater violence, leading to a brutal survival story and a brilliant tale of growth.
The popularity of ‘Weak Hero Class 1’, which met global viewers through Netflix last month, is remarkable. According to the Netflix TOP 10 website, ‘Weak Hero Class 1’ recorded 6.7 million views (the number of views divided by the total running time of the work), ranking 2nd in the global TOP 10 series (non-English) category. It has made headlines by appearing in the TOP 10 of 70 countries.
Director Yoo Su-min, who led the success by adding unique action to a world that breaks away from the typical school genre, and chief planner Han Jun-hee have teamed up once again. Attention is focused on the character play of passionate young actors including Park Ji-hoon, who will showcase a deeper performance alongside Yeon Si-eun's growth, as well as Ryu Un, Choi Min-young, Yoo Soo-bin, Bae Na-ra, Lee Min-jae, and Lee Jun-young.
Following the hot response to the teaser poster and teaser trailer that were previously unveiled, the character stills spark curiosity with new faces that Yeon Si-eun (Park Ji-hoon) encounters as she confronts greater violence both inside and outside the school.
First, the changed atmosphere of Yeon Si-eun captured at the chaotic school ‘Eunjang High’ is intriguing. The deep scars of not being able to protect her friend seem to have erased her smile, as if she has returned to before meeting Ahn Soo-ho (Choi Hyun-wook). Yeon Si-eun's intense gaze as she pulls out her pencil case and prepares for battle hints at the ongoing brutal fight.
It is anticipated how Yeon Si-eun, who transfers to Eunjang High with trauma, will unfold her desperate survival story and brilliant growth to ensure she never loses a friend again. Park Ji-hoon, who returns with upgraded ‘brain action’ and deeper emotional lines, stated, “I had a lot of thoughts about how Yeon Si-eun would make new friends and how to portray that flow. I tried to convey her desperation through my gaze.”
The chemistry of the three Eunjang High friends, Ryu Un, Choi Min-young, and Lee Min-jae, who will bring back Yeon Si-eun's smile, is also exciting. Ryu Un, perfectly immersed as the righteous leader ‘Park Hu-min’, captivates attention with his unique aura. Park Hu-min is known as ‘Baku’, a famous powerhouse, but he is also a character overflowing with a sense of justice, approaching Yeon Si-eun with his unique friendliness to fight against violence to protect their precious friends.
Ryu Un, who gained over 10 kg to build the sturdy character of ‘Park Hu-min’, expressed, “Park Hu-min is a character with a firm belief of his own,” adding, “The friendship of the kids who have to face greater violence to protect their friends touched me. I found the warm-hearted and justice-driven side of Park Hu-min particularly appealing.”
Choi Min-young plays the role of ‘Seo Jun-tae’, the underdog of Eunjang High. The sight of ‘Seo Jun-tae’ sitting in class, looking completely deflated, shows the reality he faces. Watching Yeon Si-eun bravely confront violence gives him the courage to fight for the first time.
Choi Min-young, who will portray Seo Jun-tae's growth in a multi-dimensional way, shared, “Although he looks weaker than anyone, I tried to find the solid side of Jun-tae that inspires the strongest characters.” Lee Min-jae, who expressed confidence saying he prepared hard for action scenes he is personally confident in, plays ‘Go Hyun-tak’, Park Hu-min's loyal friend and reliable action-oriented character. His agile stance in attack mode showcases his background as a taekwondo athlete.
Characters that will heighten dramatic tension by opposing Yeon Si-eun are also intriguing. Yoo Soo-bin plays ‘Choi Hyo-man’, an information broker at Eunjang High who wants to belong to the delinquent alliance. Yoo Soo-bin, who completed the typical strong-weak character of ‘Choi Hyo-man’ with skilled pacing, described him as “a character like a seven-year-old who is hard to love,” raising curiosity.
The role of ‘Na Baek-jin’, the apex of the alliance that constantly threatens the four from Eunjang High, is played by Bae Na-ra, who received acclaim in ‘D.P.’ Season 2. Na Baek-jin, standing on the podium, embodies the model student. However, his dual nature, which explodes with a dark aura in another photo, is intriguing. Bae Na-ra shared, “Na Baek-jin has a smart brain and incredible fighting skills. I researched a lot for a fast and light yet heavy-hitting action style,” stimulating curiosity.
Expectations are also high for Lee Jun-young's unique transformation as he returns with ‘Weak Hero Class 2’ following ‘Bokssak Sogassuda’ and ‘Melomovie’. The character ‘Geum Seong-je’, played by Lee Jun-young, is a free spirit who does not want to belong anywhere or to anyone, only seeking ‘fun’. His nonchalant yet somehow chilling smile raises anticipation for the extraordinary activities of the ‘Geum Seong-je’ character.
The rooftop battle with Park Ji-hoon, which was previously revealed, has drawn attention, and the action scenes where they clash fiercely are also a focus. Lee Jun-young described Geum Seong-je as “a character so unpredictable that he has the nickname ‘slave of adrenaline’,” stimulating expectations.
‘Weak Hero Class 2’ will be released worldwide on Netflix on the 25th.
