It has been a year since veteran actress the late Oh Hyun-kyung passed away.
Oh Hyun-kyung collapsed due to a brain hemorrhage in August 2023 and had been battling her illness in a nursing hospital until she passed away on March 1 of last year, at the age of 88.
She began her acting career in 1954 while participating in the drama club during her second year at Seoul High School, and the following year, she won the Best Actor award at the National High School Drama Competition for her role in 'The Six Martyred Scholars.' As a KBS first-generation talent, she appeared in TV dramas in the 1960s and gained popularity for her role as Lee Jang-soo in the drama 'The Art of War' (1987-1993).
Oh Hyun-kyung temporarily halted her acting activities due to esophageal and stomach cancer, but returned to the theater stage in 2008, entering her 'second prime.'
In 2008, she received the Best Actor award at the Seoul Theater Festival for her leading role as Choi Pal-young in the participating work 'Protagonist,' and in 2009, she won the Best Actor award at the Korea Theater Awards for her role as a father in 'Spring Day.'
She did not leave the theater stage until just before collapsing from a brain hemorrhage. In May of last year, she briefly appeared in a joint performance titled 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' presented by the Yonsei Theater Arts Research Association, featuring both graduates and current students. This work became the last piece she performed on stage.
